SINGING CONVENTION

October 7, 2012

On June 2, 2012, TUCC was the host church for our monthly Jubilee Singing Convention. The participating churches and visitors gathered at 3:00 pm. What A Friend was our opening number. That was followed by the scripture, (James Culbert) Prayer, (Julia Jackson) and Prayer Chant, (Im Yours Lord). TUCC then performed three songs: Glory, Glory Roy Johnson, lead, I Want You To Help Me- Al Price - led, and I Want To Be Ready, led by Kat Basile. Mt. Zion sang: Be Ye Steadfast, Im So Glad, & I Wont Complain. Star Pilgrims numbers were: Have Your Way, Hold To Gods Unchanging Hand, both led by their pastor, Rev. Watson. They also provided the offertory selection, No Not One. Our guest choir, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Jeanerette, was next on the agenda. They favored us with three very beautiful selections: Gods Got A Blessing, Here I Am, & Silver and Gold. Those young people are very talented and I can see a bright future for them. After the announcements, both trophies were awarded to TUCC for having the most choir members & other members present. We closed out the most fruitful & enjoyable evening after the invitational and closing songs. (Jeanie Culbert)

Pastors Anniversary
Our beloved pastor, Rev. Paul Godfrey, was given a 15th year anniversary celebration on Sunday-9-16-2012. It was our pleasure to honor such a worthy person as he is. He is truly a man of God. He proves it in everything he does for and with the members of TUCC. On Sundays, he gives us spiritual food without restraint. On weekdays, he gives us guidance, loyalty, friendship, unbridled love, spiritual leadership, etc. The program committee did a fantastic job of planning this perfect day. The songs were reflective of Rev.s favorites and what defines him. One song called Youve Won My Affection, has some words that zero in on our leader. He sacrifices and goes the distance as well as his mate, Marion. Another song called, Know This

Pastor, says volumes. Repeative words, Know this pastor, were praying for you let him and wife know how much we need, love, and want him as our pastor. After the service, we moved on to Kamp Knighton for the repast. When entering the building, a wonderful and unusual sight awaited. It was beautifully decorated and set up like professionals had done it. Tables had white tablecloths with black cups setting in black saucers. White napkins were placed in each cup. AWESOME!! Food tasted like tv chefs had prepared it. Ample sized portions were dished and served by the willing workers. Clear plastic plates were used to place the food on. Tasty delicious food and elegance were the order of the day. Special thanks to the program committee: Athena Self, chairperson-Marie Chevalier, James Culbert, and Min. Ada Joseph-co-chairs. Hello Friends, The month of September was pretty busy for me every Sunday. I attended Friends and Family Day at Cottrell Chapel CME Church. They had a very nice program. Pastor Ferris Martin, the pastor of Mt. Olive B.C. #1 and Great Samaritan of Christ, was the guest speaker. The spoken word was taken from Luke 15:24-25. His subject was It Is Good To Celebrate. He did a beautiful job. I also attended the musical at St. Edward Catholic Church. It was a time to remember. There were thirteen (13) choirs and music group. Their theme was Get With God. The church was packed. It was long but I enjoyed it. There were a variety of beautiful songs and hymns. The congregation joined in singing the opening song: Get with God, join the celebration Get with God, sing in jubilation Get with God, shout it to the nation In Him we live and move and have our being He calls each of us by name to give Him praise Give Him your tears and sorrow and all your joys With Him all things are possible So get with God Get with God. Shalom **********************************

I attended the 5th Sunday Fellowship service at Hubbard UCC on Sunday, September 30, 2012. They had a good turn out even in the inclement weather. The speaker was Rev.-Dr. Hopkins from Plymouth UCC, Beautmont, TX. She did a magnificent job. I was very delighted to have spent services twice with our acting conference minister and spouse, Rev. Bill and Gail Royster. He attended our 8:30 .m. at Teche UCC and also the 5th Sunday fellowship at Hubbard UCC. Our conference minister is on sabbatical leave and he is working in his stead. They seemed to have enjoyed both services. The next 5th Sunday Fellowship will be held in Lake Charles at Woodbury UCC and I hope to see all of you there, God willing. Shalom! (Sarah the ham Conway)

October is designated as Breast Cancer Month.

Prayer for Cancer Patients

Dear Lord, I pray for health and strength for all of your children so we may do great things in your name. You know our prayers before we pray them. You know about the cancer that many of your children have experienced the surgeries, the treatments, work and family related issues, and financial constraints. I ask you to bless and heal all of your children. Please heal our bodies so that none of us will ever have to experience breast, ovarian, colon, pancreatic, brain, skin or any other type of cancer ever again. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I pray. Amen. Evangeline Daye

Church Humor The Arbiter An atheist professor was teaching a college class and he told the class that he was going to prove that there was not a God. He said, "God if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I'll give you 15 minutes!" Guacamole 1- 16 oz. container Creole seasoning (chopped onions, bell peppers, celery) 1 10 oz. can cream mushroom soup 1 lb. Louisiana Crawfish tails 1 pk. Flour tortillas Salsa

Ten minutes went by. He kept taunting God, saying, "Here I am God, I'm still waiting" He got down to the last couple of minutes and a huge 250-pound rugby player happened to walk by the door and heard what the professor said. The rugby player walked into the classroom and in the last minute, he walked up, hit the professor full force, and sent him flying off the platform. The professor got up, obviously shaken and said, "Where did you come from, and why did you do that?" The football player replied, "God was busy; He sent me!"
