Expansion bus:
An expansion bus is made up of electronic pathways which move information between the internal hardware of a computer system (including the CPU and RAM) and peripheral devices. It is a collection of wires and protocols that allows for the expansion of a computer System Bus:
This bus is also called local bus or internal bus.Its function is to conne ct the CPU with
RAM.
DCE:
Data Communication Equipement es el equipo de comunicacin. Generalmente un modem u algn otro dispositivo que establece el enlace fsico y lgico con la red.
The DCE bus on the DAI computer is what makes it more than an standard home computer. The bus offers a structured way to connect peripherials to the computer. Internally the DCE bus is just a 8255 chip. This device offers two 8-bit and two 4-bit I/O ports. Two modes of operation are possible:
In basic mode only one device can be connected. The ports can be used any way the designer wishes. This mode is ideal for simple (E)PROM programmers.
Port A is a bidirectional DATA bus Port B is a address bus (4 bits to select a card, 4 bits to address within a card) The lower part of the C port is used as control bus:
o o o o
bit 0: bus expand (toggles card 0-15 with 16-31) bit 1: write pulse bit 2: read pulse bit 3: not used
DTE:
Data Terminal Equipement es el equipo terminal de datos, la computadora o terminal que es el extremo final de la red. It is a device that controls data flowing to or from a computer. The term is often used in reference to serial communications defined by the RS232C standard. This standard defines the two ends of the communications channel being a DTE and Data Communications Equipment (DCE) device. In practical terms, the DCE is usually a modem and the DTE is the computer itself, or more precisely, the computer chip UART. For internal modems, the DCE and DTE are part of the same device. All DTE-DCE cables are straight through meaning the pins are connected one on one. DTE-DTE and DCE-DCE cables are cross cables. To make a destiction between all different types of cables we have to use a naming convention. DTE - DCE: Straight Cable DTE - DTE: Null-Modem Cable DCE - DCE: Tail Circuit Cable Interface Mechanica RS232 can be found on different connectors. There are special specifications for this. The CCITT only defines a Sub-D 25 pins version where the EIA/TIA has two versions RS232C and RS232D which are resp. on a Sub-D25 and a RJ45. Next to this IBM has added a Sub-D 9 version which is found an almost all Personal Computers and is described in TIA 457.
