E-Portfolio

& Presentation

This course requires the development and maintenance of an electronic portfolio (E-Portfolio). This tool will be used to store evidence of basic content knowledge as well as five specific educational habits that will be referred to as the 5 Habits of Mind. The 5 Habits of Mind: 1. Significance (Why is it important?) 2. Perspective (What is the point of view?) 3. Evidence (How do you know?) 4. Connection (How does it apply?) 5. Supposition (What if it were different?) Products included in the E-Portfolio should directly address some or all of the 5 Habits of Mind. If the product does not allow for this directly, a reflection should be attached to the final submission that informs the instructor of the students understanding of the significance, perspective, evidence, connection and supposition of the assignment. A rubric will be provided for each submission item to help you fully meet this requirement. E-Portfolio Creation: Your E-Portfolio will be housed on a website that you will create. This website will be developed using a Web 2.0 tool called Google Sites. The required pages of your E-Portfolio are included below: Welcome & Course Goals page About Me page Nature of Science & Experimental Design page Biochemistry page The Cell page Photosynthesis & Cellular Respiration page Genetics page Evolution page The Web of Life page Ecology page Reflection page Additional pages based on student preference End of Course Presentation: During the 31st week of the course (May 28th 31st), students will be asked to present their portfolios to a group of teaching professionals. The purpose of this presentation is to demonstrate the students understanding of course content, as well as their understanding of the broader context of this course (the 5 Habits of Mind). This will be assessed using the provided E- Portfolio rubric. The Biology E-Portfolio & Presentation will account for 20% of the students 2nd semester grade, as noted in the course syllabus.
