PARABLE IN THE QURAN (PARABLES, LIKENESS, EXAMPLE, SIMILITUDE) Compiled by Md.

Naim Khan Islamic Research Center Sweden (IRCS) Ref. Nr.: 2010/12/06-D-005-8 PARABLE Surah Baqaraa 2:26: Verily, Allh is not ashamed to set forth a parable even of a mosquito or so much more when it is bigger (or less when it is smaller) than it. and as for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord, but as for those who disbelieve, they say: "What did Allh intend by This parable?" by it He misleads many, and many He guides thereby. and He misleads thereby Only those who are Al-Fsiqn (the rebellious, disobedient to Allh). Surah Al Araf 7:176: and had we willed, we would surely have elevated Him therewith but He clung to the earth and followed his own vain desire. so his description is the description of a dog: if You drive Him away, He lolls his tongue out, or if You leave Him alone, He (still) lolls his tongue out. such is the description of the people who reject Our Ayt (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). so relate the stories, Perhaps they may reflect. Surah Al Araf 7:177: evil is the likeness of the people who reject Our Ayt (proofs, evidences, Verses and signs, etc.), and used to wrong their ownselves. Surah Rad 13:17: He sends down water (rain) from the sky, and the valleys flow according to their measure, but the flood bears away the foam that mounts up to the surface, and (also) from that (ore) which they heat In the Fire In order to make ornaments or utensils, rises a foam like unto it, Thus does Allh (by parables) show forth Truth and falsehood . then, as for the foam it passes away as scum upon the banks, while that which is for the good of mankind remains In the earth. Thus Allh sets forth parables (for the Truth and falsehood, i.e. belief and disbelief). Surah Ibrahim 14:18: the parable of those who disbelieve In their Lord is that their works are as ashes, on which the wind blows furiously on a stormy day, they shall not be Able to get aught of what they have earned. that is the straying, far away (from the Right Path). Surah Ibrahim 14:14:24-26: see You not How Allh sets forth a parable? - a goodly word as a goodly tree, whose root is firmly fixed, and its branches (reach) to the sky (i.e. very high). giving its fruit at All times, by the leave of its Lord and Allh sets forth parables for mankind

In order that they may remember. and the parable of an evil word is that of an evil tree uprooted from the surface of earth having no stability. Surah Ibrahim 14:45: "And You dwelt In the dwellings of men who wronged themselves, and it was clear to You How we had dealt with them. and we put forth (many) parables for You." Surah Noor 24:35: Allh is the light of the heavens and the earth. the parable of his light is as (if there were) a niche and within it a lamp, the lamp is In glass, the glass as it were a brilliant star, lit from a blessed tree, an olive, neither of the east (i.e. neither it gets sun-rays Only In the morning) nor of the west (i.e. nor it gets sun-rays Only In the afternoon, but it is exposed to the sun All Day long), whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself), though no Fire touched it. light upon Light! Allh guides to his light whom He wills. and Allh sets forth parables for mankind, and Allh is All-Knower of everything. Surah Rum 30:28: He sets forth for You a parable from Your ownselves, - do You have partners among those whom Your Right hands possess (i.e Your slaves) to share as equals In the wealth we have bestowed on you? whom You fear as You fear each other? Thus do we explain the signs In detail to a people who have sense . Surah Rum 30:58: and indeed we have set forth for mankind, In This Qur'n Every kind of parable. but if You (O Muhammad Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) bring to them any sign or proof, (as an evidence for the Truth of Your Prophethood), the disbelievers are sure to Say (to the believers): "You follow nothing but falsehood, and magic." Surah Yasin 36:78: and He puts forth for us a parable, and forgets his own creation. He says: "Who will give life to These bones when they have rotted away and became dust?" Surah Zhukruf 43:17: and if one of them is informed of the news of (the birth of) that which He set forth as a parable to the Most Beneficent (Allh) (i.e. of a girl), his face becomes dark, gloomy, and He is filled with grief! Surah Muhammad (pbuh) 47:3: that is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the Truth from their Lord. Thus does Allh set forth their parables for mankind. Surah Hashq 59:21: had we sent down This Qur'n on a mountain, You would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by

the fear of Allh. such are the parables which we put forward to mankind that they may reflect. LIKENESS 23 2:17 2:261 264 265 3:59 117 10:24 11:24 29:41 57:20 62:5 EXAMPLE 62 2:66 171 3:97 5:38 8:38 15:13 16:75 76 112 17:41 48 18:32 45 54 24:34 25:33 39 33:21 43:8 43:56 57 58 59 60:4 6 62:5 66:10

11 74:31 SIMILITUDE 13 B. Narrated Abu Hurairah (ra): AllAh's Messenger (sws): said, "My similitude in comparison with the other Prophets before me is that of a man who has built a house nicely and beautifully, except for a place of one brick in a corner. The people go round about it and wonder at its beauty, but say: 'Would that this brick be put in its place!' So I am that brick, and I am the last (end) of the Prophets." (Sahih AIBukhfJri, Vol. 4, Hadith No. 735). Surah Nahl 16:74: so put not forward similitudes for Allh (as there is nothing similar to him, nor He resembles anything). Truly! Allh knows and You know not. Surah Israa 17:89: and indeed we have fully explained to mankind, In This Qur'n, Every kind of similitude, but Most mankind refuse (the Truth and Accept nothing) but disbelief. Surah Hajj 22:73: O mankind! a similitude has been coined, so listen to it (carefully): Verily! those on whom You call besides Allh, cannot create (Even) a fly, even though they combine together for the purpose. and if the fly snatched away a thing from them, they would have no power to release it from the fly. so weak are (both) the seeker and the sought. Surah Furqaan 25:9: see How they coin similitudes for you, so they have gone astray, and they cannot find a (Right) Path. Surah Furqaan 25:33: and no example or similitude do they bring (to oppose or to find fault In You or In This Qur'n), but we reveal to You the Truth (against that similitude or example), and the better explanation thereof. Surah An Kabut 29:43: and These similitudes we put forward for mankind, but none will understand them except those who have knowledge (of Allh and his signs, etc.). Surah Yasin 36:13: and put forward to them a similitude; the (story of the) dwellers of the town, [It is said that the town was Antioch (Antakiya)], when there came Messengers to them. Surah Zumur 39:27: and indeed we have put forth for men, In This Qur'n Every kind of similitude In order that they may remember.

Surah Zumur 39:29: Allh puts forth a similitude: a (slave) man belonging to many partners (like those who Worship others along with Allh) disputing with one another, and a (slave) man belonging entirely to one master, (like those who Worship Allh Alone). are those two equal In comparison? All the praises and thanks be to Allh! but Most of them know not.
