With only a few rupees in her hand, she went into the most wretched slums of the city, to begin her charitable mission. She started her work in the slum area around Loreto Convent, Entally. She took five or six children and began to teach them under a tree near a stagnant pool. Some people noticed this and donated tables and chairs, and a black board. Soon more children belonging to different religions joined her class. She asked for help and collected some money. With that she rented two rooms at five rupees per month. She took the children for a bath in the tank and taught them to be clean and tidy. She gave them lessons on hygiene and reading and taught them not to use bad language and always to help others. People liked what was happening and help came from various corners. Soon the school began to grow and was given the name 'Nirmal Hriday'. A. 2. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below Tansen held a high position in Akbar`s court. This was not liked by many. They requested Akbar to ask Tansen to sing Deepak Raag. It was a wonderful Raag. When Sung properly, it makes the atmosphere so warm that gradually the 'Deepak' or the lamp will catch fire, and ultimately the singer himself will die out of immense heat. Akbar was ignorant of the effect of the Raag. So, he ordered Tansen to sin Deepak Raag. Tansen knew that it was almost a death sentence for him. But he could not disobey the emperor. Fortune favours the brave. He was not born to turn back at unseen danger. On the fateful day Tansen began the alap and the air became warm. As the tempo of the Raag eas created the birds fell down dead. People cried in horror as flames shot up and unlit lamps burnt. A.
