Saint Michael Parish Mission Statement:

GIRARD Sat. 5:30pm Sun. 10:00 am Sat. 2:00-2:45pm

ARMA 4:00pm 8:00 am 3:15-3:45pm

We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions are faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit ourselves to be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all members to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all. Notes from the Pastor: Welcome to the Year of Faith! Finally another outpouring of Gods grace is afforded us in this universal celebration. I hope and pray that all of us will be able to avail of this opportunity to change ourselves through daily and constant conversion of ourselves to God and renew ourselves with rejuvenated faith in Him. In our parish level, we will continue to emphasize it in our mass intentions and universal prayer, and may the grace of our faith in Him strengthen our relationship with God and to one another. Talking about relationship, one word that best describes us as a church is communion. First we are united with God. But God chose His representatives in this earth to guide His church and protect the purity of faith that is entrusted to her. Based on this premise, we can never truly be a Church if we are not in communion with our bishop. Ever since the beginning of Christianity this has been part of the structure of the church that Christ built. Let all follow the bishop as Jesus Christ follows His Father Let no one do anything concerning the Church in separation from the bishop.(from Saint Ignatius of Antioch, Ad Smyrna 8.1) This is also what the devil wants to destroy in us, that we will be divided. He tempted Adam and Eve to be disconnected from God. Through the ages, because of humanities pride, heresies and schisms occurred, causing division in the Church. In our modern times, the temptation continues, that when we see something we dont like, we tend to run away and separate. Whether we like the bishop or not, he is a major part of us as he is ordained and consecrated in the name and in the power of Christ for that position. Besides the personality of our present bishop is so affable that it would be easier for us to relate with authority! Next Sunday(10/21/2012) 10:00 AM J. Hey, M. Reif, A., C., E., Doherty, R. Divide and Conquer! It has brought to my attention that there are people who spreading rumors that our contemplated renovation of the church is already a done deal! This is a result of pure speculation and mistrust! This is what I wrote a year ago in the bulletin way back in August 21, 2011 Another thing we need to look forward to is improving our Church building, especially it will be 50 years this coming 2014 since this was built in 1964. All the people I talked with agreed that there is a need to improve our facilities. What and how it would be needs more discerning and planning so that it would cater to our needs. For sure we will welcome all your inputs as regards this matter. This could happen sometime next year or in the next couple of years.(highlight supplied) You may check you old bulletin. You did not hear anything from me about this matter since then BECAUSE we were still on the process of assessing our needs and we dont know yet what exactly we can propose to address these needs. But to dispel the rumors and prevent Satan from dividing us I am forced to give you a premature update about this matter. Early last year, our buildings and grounds committee brought the issue of our church bathroom to the finance council: that aside from being in deplorable conditions, it is not handicapped accessible and is not in accordance with federal regulations. There was an incident sometime last year that a lady collapse inside the bathroom and we found it hard to open the door as her body was blocking the doorway, narrow as it is. So the

need is not just to improve the bathroom but to enlarge it especially the doorway! On the other hand, our bishop, has strongly recommended, even during the time of Fr. Carney that the parish offices should be separate from the rectory. We did consider (so was Fr. Carney) using part of the hall for offices. But as you can see now, it can barely accommodate all our activities in the hall especially when we have our PSR classes. We are even running out of storage space and every room counts! Much less it is feasible for parish offices. Looking back at the front of the church, we dont have enough space inside to gather together after each celebration. On inclement weather, people run right away to their cars. So this space is very important as it provides opportunity to socialize with each other leading to build more strongly our community and many more activities that can be done with a large gathering space! The committee then have recommended that since we need to enlarge the church bathroom and consequently enlarge the frontal area of our church, we might as well incorporate all these improvements to address all our needs: that is renovate the front area to have an enlarged and improved bathrooms, parish offices, and larger gathering space! It was my plan that before we will bring this matter for your input, that we could come up first with something concrete that we can present to you. So I asked the committee to hire an architect to give us at least a layout of what we can do without compromising our present structure and at the same time preserving much of our history. This is not a construction plan yet. We are still on the exploratory stage. We are also following guidelines from the diocese as regards renovation or building projects which we have to strictly

follow as a process. Before even starting the first step of the process in the guidelines we have to get our acts together! Before we will bring anything to the diocese for approval, we have to have your support first because it includes how are we going to finance the project! And that depends on you, on how we want to do it or what you want me to do! So how can that be a done deal! Once the committee and the councils will be able to come up with something concrete we will present them to you because I will ask your support for it! I want you to know that we are doing this not just for our own good but looking ahead for the future of Saint Michael. We are doing this for the Church in the name of God! I have told our parish council that we will schedule a town hall meeting where we can have a thorough discussion about this before we can proceed! On top of this, we have a couple more urgent tasks to accomplish: finalizing our mission statement and celebrating a stewardship Sunday. I am asking for your understanding. Be patient with me and our councils and we will certainly bring you to this discussion! I am sure after this explanations, the devil will find some other ways to tempt us! May Saint Michael defend us in this battle! This October 15 to 18, priests from all over the Diocese of Wichita will converge at the Spiritual Life Center for our annual Fall Clergy Conference. The gathering aims at providing ongoing formation of priests, an opportunity for reflection/recollection, and improve camaraderie among the clergy with the bishop. Because of this we have no mass on Wednesday, but we have mass and adoration this Friday! Finally, dont forget to say the rosary! May the Blessed Mothers intercession open our hearts to the grace of God! God bless you all! Fr. Roger St. Michaels Fall Bazaar Announcement Our Fall Bazaar is scheduled for October 21st! We will be contacting businesses and asking for donations. We have a Gift Committee and if you would like to volunteer or help in anyway, please contact Marisa Goff at 724-2601 (cell), 724-6111 (work) or Connie Sponsel at 7244104 (home), 724-6111 (work). Movie Night We will have our movie night on October 27, Saturday at 7PM at the hall! For this first night we will be showing October Baby. If you are not familiar with it yet, you can browse the web for its review. To give you a hint it is the story of 19-year-old Hannah, who finds out she is adopted and is the survivor of an attempted abortion. She goes on a road trip to find answers, locate her birth mother and, ultimately, discover how powerful forgiveness can be. The movie is free but we will accept free will donation for our March for Life kids. Mark your calendar! K of C Tootsie Roll Drive After Masses on the weekend of Oct. 13-14. Proceeds go towards helping people with intellectual disabilities.
