1.0

INTRODUCTION Malaysia today has links with the road infrastructure that is modern and the best road network in Southeast Asia. But the statistics of road accidents in Malaysia (Royal Malaysia Police Report from 1990-1995) shows that the rate of road accidents in Malaysia is increasing. The traffic congestion and delays on the road also increasing due to the higher usage of vehicles among Malaysians. But positive steps and proper planning have been taken in order to reduce this problem to a minimum in line with the increasing in traffic capacity. The study includes an assessment of the ability of the existing junction as it is the main route at this area to determine whether it can handle the traffic capacity or not. Indirectly, it also can determine the causes of the delay, congestion and accidents that may arise in that area. The junction is designed to allow drivers to move in the traffic stream or switch from one stream to another to change the direction of movement. However, the junction will having some delays or the possibility of an accident happened if the driver did not change the direction of movement efficiently. Overall, the pattern of movement of the junction will be observed and analyzed the services of the traffic flow as well as the impact of the increases of traffic capacity.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The safety of the pedestrian Most of the students of polytechnic used the road in front of the entrance main gate to enter Campus A. Since the road is quiet busy, especially during peak hour, it is danger for the pedestrian to use the road if proper action not been taken. Traffic jammed The main entrance of Campus A is having a high capacity of vehicle during the peak hour because many vehicles are about to enter polytechnic and causing a long queue. Road furniture Not suitable road furniture as there are two speed table and it is near the corner of the road and it is danger for the road users.

AIM OF THE PROJECT The aim of the project is to analyze the T-junction in order to know the current performance and movement pattern at the junction.

1.2.1 Objective One To determine the level of services of existing junctions 1.2.2 Objective Two To control the traffic congestion at the entrance of Polytechnic

The project is carried out at the T-junction of Campus A, Ungku Omar Polytechnic 1.3.1 Collect data volume of the traffic flow at the junction to determine the peak hour and analyzed data.

1.3.2 Monitoring the geometry of the junction

1.3.3 To observe the movement of traffic around the road that link to the junction.

2.0

PROPOSED METHODOLOGY The research methodology is regarding the methods used in this study. The methodology of this study will explain the process of the research to be carried out in completing this project.

2.1

The location The location was chosen based on the observations that have been conducted in terms of traffic volume, delays and frequency of road accidents at this location. The location is at the T-junction in front of the main entrance of Campus A.

2.2

Data collection It is the most important observation. The data collected will be analyzed to get the level of service and the delays at the junctions. Observers should be able to see the whole movement of the traffic flow. The traffic volume data acquisition is to determine the peak hours at the junction as to determine the level of service of the intersection at the peak hours.

2.3

Data analysis Through the data obtained, the graph will be plotted and the peak hours will be obtained from the graph. The data collected will be analyzed and the level of services will be determined.
