NES SECUNDARIO ENGLISH DEPARTMENT COURSE OF ACTION 2010

Course syllabuses will be annual and areal, one for Literature and one for Language. Changes will
be made when/if necessary throughout the year. They will be revised at the end of each term. The syllabus must contemplate language contents (vocabulary and grammar), macro and micro skills, as well as General objectives, Operational objectives and Assessment. (Deadline: March 29th)

General Objectives: Operational Objectives Assessment:

Emergency lessons: every teacher must prepare 2 emergency lessons to be when she is absent or
arrives late. These must include photocopies for students to use and will be stored in the corresponding YEAR folder. Assessment: 1. Classwork and homework assessment activities will be marked /10, 7/10 being a passing mark. Students must have at least 2 marks in each skill each term. Term Tests are marked /100, 60/100 being the passing mark. 2- Term tests must include the following parts and marks: - For 1 and 2 years: Listening (10 marks), Reading (10 marks), English Usage (15 marks), Reading and Writing (10 marks), Writing (15 marks) - For 3 year: PET FORMAT:Listening/Reading/Writing/English Usage (25 marks each) . Term Tests integrate Language and Literature and have only one final result / 100. Its suggested that Language be evaluated through Listening, English Usage and R/W or Writing, whereas Literature, through Reading and R/W or Writing. 3- All marks are recorded in the teachers form, and must be transferred to the libreta de calificaciones regularly, and to the students cuaderno de comunicaciones at least once a month. 4- At the end of the term there will be 3 marks /10: 1 for Language, 1 for Literature and 1 for Attitude (to be agreed on by both teachers of the course). From these each student will get one final mark / 10 , to be included in the official form, which will determine whether the term is passed. i. Marking schemes Written Production: Mechanics (grammar, punctuation, spelling) Range ( of vocabulary and structures used for the level) Purpose ( task achievement) Impression (on the target reader; layout, organization) Each of the four aspects is awarded a mark between 0 and 5, which are added up and divided to get a mark over 10 for R/W and over 15 for Writing ( Purpose and Impression are considered 1 item together) Accuracy (of language and pronunciation) Fluency Communication (including relevance) and Task Range Each of the four aspects is awarded a mark between 0 and 5, which are added up and divided to get a mark over 10. REPORTS: Each student gets his English report at the end of each term, where teachers will write in grades and comments for the different skills. Both, academic performance and Attitude (behaviour and effort) are evaluated with: E, MB, B, R, M (Excelente a Mal). The brief comment must refer to the students achievements and area/s to be improved. Spoken Production:

Studentsfolders should be checked by the teacher at least twice each term and given a mark , and
once by the coordinator. The mark given will be included in Attitude. Folders must be complete for the term to be passed.

Incumplimiento: each teacher will keep a record of each students failure of accomplishment and
transfer this to the students cuaderno de comunicaciones.

Teachers box: each teacher will have a box with all the material she will use during the
year, both permanent and temporary books, booklets, handout, video tapes, cds, flashcards, posters, magazines, etc). A material on loan card should be completed by each teacher and given to the coordinator. In the event of a special case-student or situation you may turn to the coordinator, Julieta Moina, or /and psychologist, Alejo Merker, for advice. There are special forms to fill in and send to him. It should be presented to the Coordinator together with the syllabus. Lesson plans must be handed in one week in advance.
