OCTOBER 2012 From Ocean View, South Africa

Interns in Ocean View!

We are closing up our year with four incredible young people volunteering with our ministry. Liza Parker, Maggie Bowell, Thad Danson, and Shawn Buck have invaded Ocean View. They live in our community, minister, and love so well here. They are a pleasure to host and God is using them mightily!!

Ubuntu boys school update

We are celebrating the Ubuntu Football boys as they are truly working hard in their schoolwork and growing by leaps and bounds. Their reports for this term have improved pretty dramatically. For example, Josh Clayton, one of the 8th Graders from Ocean View saw his average double this term. The high school boys, in particular, have made a decision to put more work into their studies. Now they are having some success, which is fueling them even more. This is such an important part of what we do, and they really struggled early on, so its quite fulfilling to watch them settle in to that new environment. I cant wait to see their final term grades!!

What was life like before Keller James Prince entered our world?? Even though he is only four months old, we have been changed in so many ways by this sweet little boy! Keller is full of sweet joy and a super calm spirit. He LOVES to chat with people especially Ocean View ladies. This guy is already such a little flirt! He has charmed us all and brought so much beauty to our world. We couldnt be more thankful for all the love and support we have received from afar for our new bundle of joy, and we love sharing him with all of you! Hes going to be a world changer!

Ministry Snapshot:

Akeelah & Vano

This sweet little girl is Akeelah, and we have known her and her older brother, Vano, all three years we have lived in Ocean View. They live in the flats (apartments) right near our home, and its evident their family struggles with poverty and spending time with them. Vano and Akeelah are always out and walking around, and dont seem to have a time they are expected home (although this is rather normal). They have been spending a lot of time in our home lately as Akeelah is finally warming up to and playing with Kieren. What sets these two precious kids apart is how incredibly sweet and soft-spoken they both are. In a community filled with anger, shouting, and profanity, these two are filled with kindness and smiles. We adore them and try to really love on them while they are in our home. What a privilege to love these beautiful children that Jesus LOVES more than we ever could!!

Whats up with Ubuntu Football

TRYOUTS: Its been an exciting time with Ubuntu even as the regular football season has ended. At the beginning of October we hosted 3 days of tryouts for our next Academy intake, boys born in 2000. We had 40 boys for the first 2 days then we cut the group in half for the final day. The group was very talented and made our decisions quite difficult. In the end we have invited 12 boys into the Academy. Six of the boys dont need educational assistance at this point, so that has allowed us to invite more boys into the family. FUNDRAISING: This is a big fundraising season for us. This Thursday we are hosting a Gentlemens Black Tie Boxing Night! We have 150 men from Cape Town coming to watch some boxing, hear from a comedian, and have a great meal. Please pray that these men will be inspired to join us as long-term partners. On Nov. 8 we will host our Annual Fundraiser at the boys school.
