This programme teaches the beauty of the Catholic vision for marriage and family life and is informed by the teaching of the Blessed John Paul II. It is rooted in the truth of the human person created in the image and likeness of God who, calling man to existence through love, He called him at the same time for love Love is therefore the fundamental and innate vocation of every human being (FC11). It is this vocation to love which lies at the heart of marriage and family life. This programme is suitable for those preparing for or living the vocation to marriage and family, and will be interest to people involved in marriage preparation, pastoral care of the family, counselling as well as those involved in education, pro-life work, law, medicine, and government and public policy. The programme is open to candidates with an honours degree, or an equivalent qualification, and at least two years relevant experience.

whole. For the first 24 months, students work through specially designed module course books, and associated reading, submitting assignments based upon this study. The final 8 months of the course focus on the writing of a 20,000 word dissertation. Students participate in lectures, seminars and tutorials at residential sessions. Throughout the programme, full personal tutorial support and guidance is provided and telephone and email helplines are available. It is possible, within the structure of the MA Programme, to terminate with the award of a Postgraduate Certificate (for Year One) or Postgraduate Diploma (for Year Two).

Aim of the programme

The overall aim of this programme is to study the intrinsic relationship between anthropology and marriage and family life. To understand the nature of marriage and family life, we must first answer the question about the nature of the human person.

Programme Structure

This MA is a 30-month, distance-learning course with short residential schools commencing each January. There are three residential weekends each year. Overseas students need to be able to attend at least three residentials over the programme as a
