Competencies are a collection of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for achieving key results in a specific job or role in a particular organization. Insurance firms, whose success or failure largely depends on the quality of their human resources, need staff with a set of competencies who can help their organisations succeed and sustain a present and future competitive position in the market. This view is reinforced by regulators the world over, who are requiring the implementation of competency frameworks across the enterprise as a prudential control. This paper will address the salient features of an insurance competency framework that insurance organizations should seek to develop to face the challenges of the increasingly competitive market in the Middle East.
