D7E 290 Euro 4, Euro 5, EEV

Engine

The D7E290 is a 7.1-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine producing 290 hp, equipped with a turbocharger and Intercooler. The engine meets the EUs conditions for exhaust emissions according to Euro 4, Euro 5 (incentive) and EEV*.
The D7E engine replaces a number of variants of the D7 engine and is equipped wtih updated systems for fuel injection and the latest-generation EMS 2 engine management system. A particularly broad torque range contributes to good driveability. With electronic engine management and injection of common rail type, the result is particularly precise fuel injection. Allied to high boost pressure from the turbocharger, high injection pressure, high compression and optimisation of fuel nozzle position in the combustion chamber, this promotes particularly efficient combustion. The efficient combustion process together with aftertreatment of the exhaust gases using SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology means the engine is environmentally optimised and approved according to the EUs Euro 4 and Euro 5 (incentive) emissions norms. What is more, the emissions are below the level set for EEV* (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) which sets even stricter demands on parameters such as lower particulate levels. The engine is vibration-free and quiet thanks to its design. The timing mechanism is surrounded by a steel timing gear plate with a cast-iron cover. The D7E engine has long service intervals, which contributes to low maintenance costs.

The SCR silencer reduces emissions to the legislated level.

Efficient combustion has been achieved through high turbo boost pressure, among other things.

Product benefits The engine has a very wide torque range and responds alertly to the throttle, which benefits driveability. Electronic engine management - EMS 2 - with precise fuel injection promotes efficient combustion and low emissions using SCR technology. Electronic fuel injection with precise regulation of fuel quantity and injection timing promotes low exhaust emissions and good fuel economy. Exhaust emission control with SCR technology means the engine meets the EUs tough Euro 4, Euro 5 (incentive) and EEV* emissions requirements.

APProved for todAys And tomorrows environmentAl requirements Thanks to its high efficiency rating, the D7E has low emissions. The exhaust gases are cleaned still further with the help of SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology. With this method, an additive called AdBlue is injected into the exhaust gases before they pass through an SCR catalyst where the nitrogen oxides are transformed into harmless nitrogen gas and water vapour. As a result, the emissions are so low that the engine meets the EUs Euro 4, Euro 5 (incentive) and EEV* (Enhanced Environmentally friendly Vehicle) emissions classes. Since the exhaust treatment takes place without affecting the engines combustion, this also means that fuel consumption is lower compared with Euro 3. Precise injection for efficient fuel utilisAtion In the D7E, injection takes place using common rail technology. The fuel is injected at high pressure through a single pipe (common rail). The engines functions are controlled electronically with the help of Volvo EMS 2 (Engine Management System), so pressure and timing can be regulated with immense precision. As a result, combustion can always be optimised to suit driving conditions, thus contributing to excellent driveability. The engine management unit is linked to the vehicle electronic system. This provides advanced scope for diagnosis and fault-tracing. comPonents And oil system dimensioned for long service life The cylinder block and cylinder head are made of cast iron, which results in a strong yet lightweight unit. The engines moving parts are all built to handle long-term stresses. The lubrication system in the D7E guarantees effective lubrication and cooling of all the engines systems. The geardriven oil pump ensures oil flow under all operating conditions. A separate oil circuit for piston cooling guarantees cooling from idling revs and upwards. All this together gives the D7E high reliability and a long service life.
