Dear Local M.P/ M.E.

P I would like to raise with you my growing concerns over what I believe and term to be the ever increasing "halalisation" of food products in the UK in particular within your constituency. As I am sure you are aware, through the extensive recent media coverage of this growing and worrying trend, that more and more people are beginning to feel isolated and bewildered as to why non halal food eaters are rapidly becoming marginalised and overlooked when it comes to food options within amongst other places schools, hospitals and day to day retail food outlets. As I am confident you are aware the ritually killed meat of the Muslim faith which is termed "halal" is killed in a specific manner which is deemed as cruel to many animal welfare groups and organisations and similarly it is banned from consumpion by many religious faith groups such as Hindu's Sikhs and Jews. That in mind many others including Christians and those of no particular religious faith do not wish to consume halal meat or food stuffs which contain products derived from a halal source such as gelatine or animal fat. My concerns therefore, are twofold; 1. Why is halal food [which caters for the Muslim community which is not the majority in this constituency], being supplied wholesale to colleges, schools, hospitals etc without the option of non halal food? I can not understand why in order to please the minority the majority is being overlooked. Can you clarify this position for me and support me in remedying this position as a matter of urgency? 2. The same halal food, as mentioned above, is being supplied to non Muslims with no other non halal meat option. I do not believe that this practice should be continued as it undermines my freedom of choice and freedom to practice my belief which prohibits the consumption of halal. Furthermore more often than not the Halal food is being served/sold without labelling it as halal. This in my estimation is outrageous, not only is halal the only option but it is being served up without your constituents even knowing about it. I am not the only individual who has grave concerns about this matter. I am raising this issue with you so as to obtain your support to enforce labelling of halal food products as halal and in order to buck the trend of all food going halal as it currently is. I am not objecting to there being a halal option for Muslims. What I am objecting to is the fact there is no other option but halal. I hope to hear from you soon with your thoughts and support and advice as to how this issue can be addressed. Yours sincerely, Your constituent.
