Inspiration Corporation (www.inspiration.org) offers The Employment Project, preparing individuals to seek and find employment in any field, and the Inspiration Kitchens culinary-skills training program, which provides comprehensive preparation for employment in the food service industry. Participants in Inspiration Kitchens must be at least 18 years old, able to stand for long periods of time, and be able to pass a tuberculosis test. Applicants must attend an orientation, pass math and English tests with a score of at least 70%, fill out an application, and complete an interview. Applicants must also be committed to finding a job in the food-service industry immediately upon completion of the program. Preference is given to people who are homeless, ex-offenders, or people who are at-risk of homelessness. Inspiration Kitchens orientations at Inspiration Cafe begin promptly at 1pm (orientations last approximately four hours). Orientations are held every Wednesday. Jane Addams Resource Corporation (www.jane-addams.org) offers a wide range of programs that include Basic Tutoring (Reading, Math, English, & GED Preparedness), Financial Education, Employment Coaching, Computer Classes, Manufacturing (CNC & Punch Press) Training, Welding Training, and much more. If you have questions feel free to call. Black Star Project (www.blackstarproject.org) is holding 15 free Saturday Universities in and around Chicago and south suburbs. These volunteer-run classes will last for 8 weeks each semester. Each location will offer small group instructions in Math, Reading, Writing and on specialty subject. We need teachers and tutors for our sites. The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago has developed a Hispanic Outreach program to increase public understanding of Epilepsy and to improve the recognition and response to seizures in the Hispanic community. The outreach program for the Hispanic community is designed to dispel myths and fears that the Hispanic community has about epilepsy seizures are related to death, demonic spirits, or its a disease. The objectives of the program are: Educate family and care providers about seizures and treatment options; Raise awareness of the prevalence of epilepsy in the Hispanic community; and Promote social inclusion, improving the quality of life and reduce stigma. Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago is able to provide educational presentations, support groups, case management services and programs in Spanish.
