Distance Championships: -As usual this event was run in conjunction with Tranent and Musselburgh Clubs and incorporated some of the Scottish Schools heats. However, this year, for the first time, we ran a full day of competition and added the new events of 100m in each stroke for the 9/10 age group. The Individual Medley events from the Club Championships were also on the programme. I thought that the new format worked really well. There was more time between swims for all age groups and the 100m events allowed more 9/10 year olds to take part. I was relieved that there were only a few disqualifications. These were mostly for poor backstroke turn technique. Perhaps the swimmers have not practised them!!! Congratulations to all medallists and record holders.

A second Club Record was broken in the 200m Freestyle. Joanna Whitelaws time of 2.12.07 lowered the record from 2.13.00 which was set by Carolyn Hawkins in 1992 Club Championships: -The Club Championships will be held next Saturday 17th November at Prestonpans Pool. Warm up 9am. This competition is also in a new format with heats and finals together in a full day competition. One of the reasons for changing the format was to make the Championships more of a whole club event. I am therefore disappointed that a number of swimmers have opted not to compete. This is the most important annual event in the clubs programme and I was hoping for as many swimmers as possible to take part. Gwen will be running a swim shop at the club championships selling goggles, swim suits and jammers etc. Fun Relays Event: -The Minnows and Blue Fins will have a fun relays evening on Wednesday 12th December 6.00 to 8.00pm. This is for all swimmers in these squads even if you do not normally train on a Wednesday. Coverdale Cup: - The team list for round 2 of the Coverdale Cup is on the board and in drop box. If you are in the team please make sure that you confirm with Gwen or Viv that you can swim. Viv Hastie
