Different Fe2O3/ZnO nanocomposites were prepared by a simple solid-state reaction method, using zinc acetate, -Fe2O3 and sodium hydroxide at room temperature. The characterization results show that the morphology, crystalline size, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area and optical absorption of the samples varied significantly with the Fe+3/Zn+2 ratios. The nanocomposites show two absorption edges at ultraviolet and visible region. The optical band gap values of these nanocomposites were calculated to be about 3.98-3.81eV and 2.75-2.98 eV, which show a red shift from that of pure ZnO. These red shifts are related to the formation of Fe s-levels below the conductive band edge of ZnO and effectively extend the absorption edge into the visible region. Here, the growth mechanisms have been proposed. Keywords: Fe2O3/ZnO; Optical properties; Photoluminescence SYN 065
Magneto-optical experiments were performed with thin films of Co-Zn Ferrite nanoparticles. The magneto-optical properties of the films were a combination of all the effects common for biaxial crystals. It is possible to study the magnitude of these effects by observing the film Faraday rotation perpendicular to the light beam and by varying the magnetic field. We have measured the Faraday rotation angle for the thin films of ferrite, subjected to a continuous magnetic field perpendicular to the propagation direction of a laser beam. The results show a linear dependence on the externally magnetic field. It has been established that The Faraday rotation angle has a linear dependence on the film thickness in the range from 60 to 180 nm. The experimental data were in a good agreement with the results obtained by theoretical evaluations. Keywords: Faraday rotation; Ferrite nanoparticles; Magneto-optical properties; Thin film SYN 067

In the present study, synthesis of magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles was investigated by sol-gel method, and using ferric nitrate (Fe(NO3)3.9H2O) and ethylene glycol (C2H6O2) as precursors under inert atmosphere. The as-prepared magnetite was added to zinc acetate to synthesis Fe3O4/ ZnO nancomposite powders via sol-gel method using vacuum furnace in different temperatures. Powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The XRD result indicates the formation of Fe3O4/ZnO nano-composites. The Crystallite size of particles was calculated using Scherer formula. Studies show that the Crystallite size is increased with increasing the annealing temperature. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicate the spherical structure of the samples. In addition, the average diameter is about 40 nm. The UV absorption spectra show a broad band emission and absorption band at 373 nm for Fe3O4/ZnO. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) Spectra present the characteristic absorption of 453.1 cm-1 for ZnO bond and 540.2 cm-1 for FeO bond. Result from vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) revealed that saturation magnetisation values decreases with increasing of annealing temperature. In this paper ZnxFe1-xFe2O4 (X= 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075, 0.1, 0.125) nano powders were prepared by co-precipitation method. Structural and optical properties of the pure and Zn-doped Iron oxide (magnetite phase) have been investigated. The synthesized Fe3O4:Zn powders were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The samples show cubic inverse spinel structure with rang size of 10 to13 nm and preferred orientation (311) that it changes to (440) orientation. The effect of Zn dopant on the structure of samples was studied, the X-ray diffraction pattern indicate the Fe3O4 phases in all of the samples and the phase segregation does not occur for any amount of doping. The TEM images reveal uniform dispersions size and spherical form for Fe3O4:Zn nanoparticles. Optical studies reveal the increase of optical band gap and optical transmittance with Zn concentration. In the present study, we have synthesized Fe3+-doped TiO2 3SnO2 nanoparticles and investigated its absorbance. Fe3+-doped TiO2 3SnO2 nanoparticles prepare by sol-gel method with different mol% of Fe3+ and a calcination temperature of 400C. The crystallite size and phase were determined by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), f (FE-SEM) was used for determining morphology evaluation of nanoparticles. The optical properties of the nanoparticles were measured by ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis). According to XRD analysis, the anatase crystalline is formed at the calcination temperature at 400C. Keywords: Sol-gel; Nanoparticles; Doped TiO2-SnO2; Optical property SYN 072
The microemulsion method was successfully used to prepare a series of TiO2, Fe and SiO2 doped TiO2 nanoparticles at a doping level of 5 at. %. The molar ratio of water to surfactant was 2. The samples were calcinations at 350C. The structural features of parent TiO2, Fe-TiO2 and SiO2-TiO2 have been investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. In comparison with the pure TiO2 sample, the Fe, SiO2TiO2 samples have relatively large particle size indicating that the doping with Fe and SiO2 can increase the particle size. XRD data verifies the formation of typical characteristic anatase form in all the Fe and SiO2 doped TiO2 samples. The increase in the ability of the particles to absorb photon energy in visible spectrum could be related to the doping of SiO2 and Fe. Keywords: TiO2; Microemulsion; Bandgap engineering
Thin films of SiO2/TiO2 mixed oxide have been prepared via sol-gel method. Thin films were formed on a glass substrate by dip coating technique. Boron and Cu doping of the nanocomposite attained by addition of different ratios of H3BO3 and Cu(NO3)2 to the SiO2/TiO2 sol. The chemical conjunction in the composition of the system was studied by X-ray photo-emission spectroscopy (XPS). Phase study by X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the formation of anatase crystalline structure. The microstructure of the surface was investigated by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Hydrophilic character of the samples has been determined by the contact angle measurement of water droplets on thin film. Experiments were performed at 20C within an environmental chamber using a KRUSS G 10 goniometer connected with a video camera. Results show that co-doping SiO2/TiO2 by Cu-B, declines the contact angle from 10.5 to 3.5. It means that more than 75% modification in superhydrophilicity achieved by the co-doped SiO2/TiO2 thin film compared with SiO2/TiO2.
