Vogel was director of the Volunteers of Saline Community Hospital and received the Saline Citizen of the Year award in 1995. The Washtenaw County Sheriffs Office is reminding residents to secure their doors following a home invasion in Lodi Township when the residents inside were asleep. Investigators learned some unknown suspects were looking for unlocked vehicles between 4:15 and 5 a.m. Nov. 13 in the Brookview Highlands neighborhood, according to the sheriffs office. The neighborhood is located to the southwest of the Textile and Maple roads intersection. While canvassing the neighborhood, the suspects discovered a garage door left open and they went through several of the vehicles inside. They then were able to enter the attached house through an unlocked door in the garage while residents were asleep inside. The suspects entered and quickly stole some cash, credit cards and some small electronic equipment from two rooms close to the garage, according to the sheriffs office. No suspect information has been released. There was also a larceny from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in a driveway Nov. 5 in the Travis Point neighborhood. A message from the sheriffs office has been posted on Nixle.com referencing this recent criminal activity . Most of us yearn for those days when we didnt have to be so concerned about keeping our property safe, the Nixle message states. Crimes of opportunity are steadily on the rise so if you remove the opportunity the crime goes elsewhere. The sheriffs office is encouraging residents to lock all doors to both their vehicles and homes. The sheriffs office also says residents shouldnt hesitate to call 911 if they notice any suspicious people or vehicles in the neighborhood, especially during the late night and early morning hours. The Saline City Council approved a plan to maintain the reliability and safety of its wastewater treatment plant Nov. 12. The city has been talking with its engineering consultants, Tetra Tech, for nearly a year about performing repairs on the aging facility. Much of the work involves replacing old equipment that has outlived its usefulness. Initially, the city will pay $272,300 to Tetra Tech to cover costs from the planning phase to securing the proper permits from the state. The city set aside the normal bidding process because of its relationship with the Photo by Jim Pruitt firm. The city first used the company back Saline City Engineer Gary Roubal briefed the City in 1999, documents show. York Township gives green light to Buck Creek bridge

Repair work to cost township about $60,000

After months of debate, the York Township board gave the goahead to repair the Buck Creek bridge on Sanford Road. Buck Creek does not produce a great deal of water, but

the Washtenaw County Road Commission has marked the road dead end since the bridge is closed. Art Stuart spoke to the board and asked officials to deal with the bridge. He is a farmer, residing on Sanford Road, between Willow Road and Stony Creek Road. He worried about operating his farm machinery on busy Carpenter Road with Sanford Road closed. Treasurer Sally Louis brought a motion to authorize

the Washtenaw County Road Commission to perform a superstructure repair costing the township an estimated $60,000 which includes certain matching funds. Clerk Helen Neill seconded the motion. We have a two-year period to pay for it, Louis said. There is no good way to get around it. York Township typically receives $30,000 per year from the Washtenaw County Road
