The following text is coppied from the instuctions on my web page: http://www.geocities.

com/nokiatonesandstuff To Download the program click on the link below: DOWNLOAD... The program is only about 50K and it'll take just a few seconds. Whilst the program is downloading read the instructions: Unzip the program and run it. It does not register it self or install so you can move it about or delete it as you see fit, you can even run it within winzip. Select the text from the list of ringtones for example:Press Ctrl + C to copy the text to your computer's clipboard. Paste the text into the program window by pressing the button that looks like a clip board on the top row of the window. Press Return and the key strokes will be generated in the window. When prompted enter the tempo of the song and it will be played through your PC' s INTERNAL beeper. A text file will be dropped to C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\Melody.txt, for most users thi s will mean it appears on their desktop. The file contains all the output of the program. The file is not locked by the program except whilst it is being writte n to so you can annotate it whilst you are still running. Program the tune into your phone using the composer, it might be worth having a look at the instructions section just so you know what's going on. CheChing all done the output should look like this: The ith rom are program is written and compiled in QBasic 4.5, I wrote it on an AMD 650Mhz w 128Mb of RAM, I know it works on that and I suspect it'll work on anything f a 286 upwards but you probably want to have some version of Windows. If you interested in how it works E-mail me and I might send you the source.

---The text below is less interesting---FAQ I don't have Win-Zip, what can I do? Not much, my web host won't let me store .exe files so I have to Zip it. You cou ld read the instructions and work out how to do it for yourself but it is a bit annoying, that's why I wrote the program. You should probably have Win-Zip anywa y. I've found some tunes on another site, can I use your program to convert them? Yes with a few limitations:The program will eliminate any characters that are used to separate the notes, e g. slashes, TABs, Spaces etc. or any words, but the program can not handle comma s, this is a limitation of the programming language. The program can not handle Return characters, if you paste in a Return it thinks you have actually pressed Return. In either of these cases you should paste the text fist into Note-Pad, then delete the illegal characters and copy and paste again into the program. Some people may make ringtones available in RTTL/Nokring format, this is the for

mat you would need if you were to directly up-load the tune into your Nokia usin g a cable. I don't support this format because I don't know anything about it. I'm not allowed to download programs on my computer at work. They wont know, the program doesn't have any affect on the system, like most win dows programs. It just sits on top like a document, the only trace it leaves, is that text file I mentioned, and you can delete that. Why doesn't the program look more like other Windows programs? I don't know any languages that can do that, and I don't own any languages eithe r. I don't trust you why should I run your program on my computer? Fair point. Version 2.07 of this program was 53.7K it's too small to do anything particularly nasty. In addition to this I scan my computer with PC-cillin 2000 regularly. Why couldn't you be arsed to convert all the tunes to into key presses and put l ittle .wav files on your site? The answer is in the question. How many tunes are there? About 250, I'll add more when I can but they are quite difficult to make, partic ularly when you know as little about music as me. Sometimes I make them and they sound rubbish so I don't include them. Why play the tune through the PC Beeper? I think it sounds more realistic, I know it's a bit quiet but you can't have eve rything. I've heard some ringtones saved in Midi format and they sound like they 're being played on an electric organ. I've got Windows NT will it work? Yes, it didn't work because I'd never tested it but i have now and I've fixed it . Version 2.08 vorks just fine on NT and 2000. I've not tried XP but I reckon it should be OK, if anyone can confirm this I would be greatful. I've read the instructions page anything else I should know? Well it's a bit obscure but I think there's a bug in the Nokia code, it's certai nly quite odd and it took me ages to figure it out. I've explained how when you press the key for a note that note acquires the octave and note length from the previous note until you change it. Well if you include a pause then press either [8] or [9] to change the length of the of the pause a subsequent note will not have the length of the pause but that of the note prior to the pause. This might not seem like a big deal to you but whilst I was writing the program it certain ly befuddled me. You may now think I'm a geek.

The tempos seem very high, what kind of hard-core is this? 225 bpm would be very high, but for some reason it's actually quarter notes per minute, or to put it another way notes per four minutes, I have no idea if this is normal or not. Who is Norman? When I submitted my site to the dmoz.org search engine I wanted to call it 'Free Nokia Ringtones' but the guy reviewing the site said:Nigel, I have just reviewed your site and am considering listing it in the directory, h owever it would not be appropriate to list it as 'Free Nokia Ringtones' as this would not be in keeping with the content of the site or the URL that the site ha s, however something like 'Nigels Ringtones' may be more appropriate and meet th e Dmoz guidelines. Which was fine but he then submitted it as Norman's Ringtones. As soon as I poin ted this out he fixed it but the damage was done. the search engines that feed o ff dmoz now call me Norma. The other search engines wont touch me because they h ave a financial interest in Nokia ringtones.
