SOUTH TEXAS COUNSELING ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRADUATE or DOCTORAL STUDY This scholarship shall be known as the STCA

Scholarship for Graduate or Doctoral Study and will be awarded biannually by the South Texas Counseling Association (STCA). Eligibility 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The applicant must have a minimum of twelve (12) hours of graduate credit in guidance and counseling courses and be enrolled in a graduate or doctoral program in a counseling related field. The applicant must use the scholarship towards completing course work in a Graduate or Doctoral degree in guidance and counseling or related field. The applicant must have a minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale based on Graduate or Doctoral course work already completed at the time of submission of the application. The applicant must live within the geographical boundaries of STCA. The applicant must be a current and paid member of STCA Amount and Description of the Scholarship 1. Scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each are made. Scholarships will be awarded at the STCA winter workshop, as well as the May STCA awards banquet. The executive board of the organization has the authority to determine annually the number of scholarships to be awarded. The scholarship will be a one-time award, and the recipients will be ineligible for further STCA scholarship awards. The scholarship must be used only for tuition, books and/or book fees. The winter scholarship award must be used by March 1 and the spring scholarship must be used by October 1 of the award year or it will be forfeited. Should the scholarship be forfeited, the money will be returned to the STCA Treasurer, and the award will be presented to an alternate recipient for use the following semester. A letter of recommendation from one of the following: employer, principal, supervisor, department coordinator or college professor. A second letter of recommendation from an individual of the applicants choice. Official transcript from the graduate or doctoral program attended showing course work completed to date.

Academic record Leadership qualities Community involvement Participation in professional organizations Method of Selection The scholarship selection committee (awards committee) of STCA shall have the responsibility for reviewing all applications submitted in accordance with the guidelines published in this statement of purpose. The committee may request personal interviews with selected candidates before making a final selection. The scholarship committees decision regarding the awarding of the scholarship(s) shall be considered as final. Method of Presenting Awards The Scholarship will be presented at two different times to the recipients. The first scholarships will be presented at the Winter Workshop. The second round of scholarships will be presented at the May awards banquet of STCA. The check for the scholarship amount will be sent to the financial aid office of the University. Deadline Dates The scholarship committee must receive the applications no later than January 1 for the winter scholarship and April 10 for the May scholarship. All applicants will be notified of the committees decision. Miscellaneous All fees for transcripts, mailing of the application, etc. will be borne by the applicant.
