This authors main focus is to explain how a positive mind-set leads to goals and values, thus providing a healthy lifestyle. This articles focus is to explain and provide examples of a healthy lifestyle by stating that by first using preventative health behaviors a patient will ultimately be healthy. This article is written by various scholars with PhDs in the field and includes others in the field that confronts certain claims, but come to a conclusion at the end. Many parts of this article provides factual information about positive psychology and the positive effects on health, but also raises different questions to be answered as this field progresses. The audience of this article is mostly likely scholars in the field of positive psychology or colleagues interested in the new subfield in psychology: positive psychology. These scholars are interested in the connection between an individual being positive and their health.

Foster 2 By using positive psychology the patient will develop goals and values that positively correlate with preventative behaviors such as not smoking, exercising, not developing depression, and self-care. An example that I plan to use is the fact that being positive about life helps to decrease stress and positively affect the immune systems function, proven in this article. The most compelling argument in this article, is the explanation of how a sick patient confronting death, may use positive psychology to turn the experience into a more meaningful one. By doing this, the patient may develop intrinsic goals that will result in the patient having much less anxiety about the illness. Less anxiety correlates with a healthier immune system response. A healthier immune system can positively affect the progress of the patients sickness.

This source also incorporates opinions and research from other leaders in positive psychology from eight different countries. The audiences are scholars or individuals interested in positive psychology and its positive effects, especially toward decreasing the chance of developing emotional disorders. I plan to focus on the claim that it is important when practicing positive psychology to not only focus on fixing the negative aspects of life, but also focus on what is good in life. When focusing on what is good in life, it helps to promote what is best for us. This source also makes great claims about positive psychology and how it can help prevent emotional disorders. Positive psychology practices help to improve behaviors, lifestyles, and coping skills. These positive influences on important qualities definitely have an influence on emotional disorders. Both

The writers hope to appeal to an audience of individuals or scholars who want to get more empirical evidence that proves the correlation between practicing positive psychology, developing goals, and avoiding developing depression. The chapters Value Pathway to Well-Being: Healthy Values, Valued Goal Attainment, and Environment Congruence and Positive Psychology and Health Psychology: A Fruitful Liaison, are extremely valuable in describing the effects of positive psychology on health and well-being. These chapters incorporate many research studies that help to prove the helpful connection between having individual goals or values, which is a part of the positive psychology practice, and the positive effect on well-being. These chapters explain the positive correlation between intrinsic goals, which provides a higher self-esteem and virtue. They also explain the

This article explains the importance of individual positive psychology, while tying in the concept of community psychology and how it is just as important but is sometimes overlooked. The audience is meant to appeal to communities that are interested in bettering their neighborhood and bringing the community together by using positive psychology. The author also tries to convince the reader to agree with his perspective of bringing positive psychology into the community. He explains how positive psychology has improved individual wellness, and how spreading information about positive psychology to communities can also help promote community wellness. By strengthening a community by using positive psychology, the community will experience togetherness, develop community goals, equality, meaning, and purpose. All of these qualities would obviously help decrease crime in the community, keep everyone positive, and keep goals always waiting to be met. He also proves according to a research study, that positive psychology in the community also leads to economic progress. The less, crime stress, and goal achievements within the community, the more positive wellness and health will be promoted.

He is very supported in his work in positive psychology by the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Science Foundation, and many more accredited organizations and foundations. He is also a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. This book is a great resource for explaining the effects of practicing positive psychology because it incorporates many case studies that explain depressed patients that begin to practice positive psychology, and how they began to experience positive effects of the practice. The audience for this book are individuals who need encouragement and proof that positive psychology can positively affect their life. While other sources explain what positive psychology is, this source explains the steps and different exercise that positive psychologist use to treat their depressed patients. These accredited, numerous cases studies and actual practices of positive psychology, will help to establish ethos in the final paper. Delving deeper into a patients depression and their practice of positive psychology exercises, helps validate the various positive effects of positive psychology.
