Thank you to all who have turned in their 2013 pledge cards. Plans for the ministry of our church for the coming year are based on these pledges. If you have not turned in your pledge card and would like to commit to the work and outreach of our church, please do so by putting it in the offering plate or giving it to the church office. As of November 26 we have received 81 pledges totaling $215,592.

Each year on the Sunday before Christmas, Presbyterian congregations express profound appreciation for our clergy and other servants of the Church by receiving the Christmas Joy Offering. We honor our church leaders both for their faithfulness in tending to our spiritual needs and in recognition of their decision, in many cases, to answer the call to ministry rather than pursue a life of material comfort. The Christmas Joy Offering provides a way to give thanks, and much-needed support, to active and retired church workers and their families who are struggling with urgent financial needs. Its a wonderful opportunity for those who have been blessed with the means to express their generosity and, at the same time, support important needs in the PC(USA) community. A Presbyterian tradition for nearly 70 years, the Christmas Joy Offering gives vital funding to the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions as well as to Presbyterian-related racial-ethnic schools and colleges. It is one of the four special offerings designated by the PC(USA) General Assembly to provide congregations direct ways to support those in need. The Christmas Joy Offering will be collected on Sunday, December 23.

Thank you for your donations to the Peacemaking Offering on October 7. We contributed 25% of the offering ($162.25) to the Menchville House. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Menchville House, Inc. as well as its residents, we would like to thank you for your generous donation of $162.25. Your donation will be used to continue the services that we provide for residents at the transitional housing facility, which serves homeless women and their children. Because fewer and fewer people are able to give to causes such as Menchville House, your donation plays an essential role in helping us to fill a critical void in our funding efforts. We also look forward to a continued partnership in the future. Once again, thank you for thinking of us. I pray that God will continue to bless you all as abundantly as you have blessed us. Sincerely, Sylvia B. Jones Executive Director

Additionally, as part of our Pauls Ministry, we will provide breakfast and lunch foods for the children of these families during their holiday breaks. We would appreciate donations of the following foods: Relish Honey Nut Cheerios or Frosted Mini-Wheats Cans of Fruit Single-serve packets of flavored instant oatmeal Boxes of saltine crackers Cans of chicken noodle and vegetable soup Packages of Oodles of Noodles Single-serve packets of hot chocolate mix Pudding cups Canned or bottled apple juice and pineapple juice Peanut butter Boxes of granola breakfast bars Jelly Cans of Spaghetti-Os, ravioli, or spaghetti Mayonnaise Boxes of macaroni and cheese Boxes of fruit drinks Cans of Vienna sausages Pop Tarts Single-serving bags of chips You may also leave these items at the church kitchen counter. If you prefer, you may make monetary donations; please designate these contributions to the churchs Food Closet. We will use these funds to purchase pies, bread, and perishable dairy products to complete these meals. A member of our Local Missions Team will be standing at the kitchen counter each Sunday to accept your donations. Finally, we will also provide for each of the children (birth through high school) of these families one gift valued at $20 or less, as well as items these children need throughout the year undergarments and socks. Tags for these gifts will be posted on a bulletin board in the main hallway. We will receive food items and donations until December 16 for Christmas meals and gifts.

The 2012 Angel Board is located on a bulletin board located in the Narthex area. There will be two sets of tags--one that you will take and fulfill returning the tag along with the wrapped gift and the second tag that you will leave on the bulletin board to help with tracking of items. We provide for each child (birth through high school) on our list one gift valued at $20 or less, as well as items the child needs throughout the year (undergarments and socks). Thank you in advance for your help with this outreach ministry. The Angel Board gifts will be due no later than Sunday, December 16 and can be turned in anytime after the board is up. All gifts should be clearly marked with the corresponding tag which will help in sorting the items for each family.

Douglas Rogers will be performing a concert of his latest repertoire at the church on Sunday, December 2 at 4:00 p.m. There will be a free-will offering after the concert to purchase materials for the drinking water projects that Bruce Robinson is working on in Haiti.

Annual Garage Sale The annual garage sale is just around the corner in the Spring of 2013. It is time to start saving your treasures. Please note that we cannot accept items at the church at this time due to limited storage space. It is very helpful if you can price all of the items ahead of time. We will not be collecting clothing, shoes, etc. Those items can be donated to local charities. All proceeds will go to support the 2013 Haiti Mission Team.

The next

Women of Faith Bible study begins at DPC on January 14, 2013

Ladies, beginning January 14, 2013, please join us each Monday evening from 6:308:30 p.m. for our next 8-week study. Detailed information will be announced shortly.

Denbigh Presbyterian Pre-Kindergarten

During the month of November, our Pre-K students learned about being thankful and sharing with those who are less fortunate. Our families donated over 50 food items for DUCO and filled 16 shoeboxes to send to Operation Christmas Child. I hope that the valuable lessons we are teaching at a young age will lead to a lifetime of charitable giving and kindness towards others. Now November has come and gone, and we are getting ready to celebrate the Christmas holiday! Our annual Christmas chapel will be held on December 12 and 13. The program will begin at 11:15 a.m. each day, so please join us if you can. The children have already been practicing their songs and bell ringing, and they will be so excited to perform. Plus, they look so cute dressed up in their Christmas best. In addition to Christmas chapel, December will be filled with special celebrations and events. Our four year old classes will be baking gingerbread men. Watch out-the gingerbread man has been known to run away! The students always have fun searching for him. The three year olds will learn about reindeer and have a special reindeer snack. All of the children will be learning about the true meaning of Christmas. All of the staff of DPPK would like to wish all of you a joyous and funfilled holiday. Merry Christmas! Maggie Vincelette DPPK Director

Seeking help with the Information Technology Committee. Do you have some skills with Computers, Telephones, or Audio-Visual to include running a video camera, projector or just setting up a TV and DVD player? Well, if you do or would like to learn how, I have a fabulous opportunity for you! We are looking for some volunteers to help out in various ways, such as assisting in setting up and taking down the projector for Sunday morning announcements, recording worship services and special events, setting up A/V equipment for special events or helping out in several other ways. If you are able to help out on a continuing basis or just occasionally please contact Pete Marshall, 874-3672 or see me at church. Any help is appreciated. Pete Marshall

Dear Congregation of DPC, Thank you so much for your cards during my recent illness. Your thoughts and prayers were greatly appreciated by myself and my family. I know my grandparents, Gary and Janet Bill, also appreciated your support and prayers. I am doing well and am on the road to recovery. Hopefully, I will be returning to work soon. God bless you all and your kindness will not be forgotten. Your sister in Christ, Janet Hafer Thank you for all the food, and thoughts and prayers. They were all welcomed and very much appreciated. We are blessed to have a family like you. Christy Silva, Patti Davis, and Paul Paulin My continued thanks for the prayers and cards from all my friends at Denbigh Presbyterian Church.
