5 Knowledge Management Approach

Cognizants approach to the Knowledge Management is a three pronged approach as detailed below 1. Knowledge Retention 2. Knowledge Repository 3. Competency Enhancement Framework As part of Knowledge Retention, each R&D segments and functional teams will identify the core and critical products from each work package. Further to this, identification of the core/ flexi team with the risks and gaps will be perforemed. After completion of these activities, the knowledge retention plan and strategy will be finalized. As part of this plan, the requirements for Knowledge Repository, training, staffing and documenation requirments will be

determined. After which, this initiative will merge with Knowledge Repository initiative wherein all product/domain artifacts will be stored in a common repository which will be collaborated with Cognizant academy to convert them into e-learning courses to increase the rigor in On-boarding & the Induction Process. The plan will also strategize with a process to update an existing e-learning module or create a new e-learning module after completion of an Invensys project.

5.1 Knowledge Retention

The Knowledge Retention project has been initiated to address the critical risk of losing product information through attrition. By performing this project Cognizant will address 1. Business continuity 2. Identify , Retain , and sustain knowledge for sustainable delivery model 3. Reduction of unplanned time spent by IOM teams on projects As part of Knowledge retention each R&D segments and functional teams will 1. Identify the core /critical products from each work package 2. Create matrix of products and team coverage 3. Plan and finalize KR Strategy 4. Publish and execute Strategy

5.2 Knowledge Repository

With this initiative, Cognizant will collate all the domain, product, process artifacts for all the segments in a portal. A methodology will be defined to ensure the portal is updated upon completion of all Invensys projects. Specific artifacts existing in the portal will be upgraded to Cognizant academy level courses by which any associate joining/starting an Invensys project will have consistent and easy access to information . A process will also be defined as a check-list/audit to verify the completion of this activity during the start-up of the project.

5.3 Competency Enhancement Frame work ( CEF ) / Product CEF

CEF and PCEF will formally evaluate each new team member against expected technical proficiency and product proficiency levels respectively for the role and the project and design personal proficiency improvement plans and execute and evaluate the improvements. The main objective of implementing this Technology Competency Enhancement program covering foundation technologies through training and certification process is to
