Mini Lesson 6- Jupiter

Description of Classroom: Same as previous lesson Background: I day lesson on the planet Jupiter, in the middle of a unit on the Solar system and the planets Content Objective(s): Students will learn about the basic characteristics of Jupiter, where is sits in planetary alignment and new vocabulary about Jupiter Language Objective(s): Students will read a poem about Jupiter and Fun facts, Complete a work packet, and write in science journals Nevada Standards: M.D.3 (a)- See previous lesson plan Key Vocabulary: Pull various and appropriate key words from worksheets Best Practices: (put an X next to those that you address in your lesson)

Teaching Strategies: KWL chart, guided group reading, independent worksheets And science writing journals with prompt Warm Up Activity: Start the KWL chart asking students what they already know About Jupiter. Because this isnt a planet that is often talked about, teacher will Have to probe students by asking questions about things they think might happen On Jupiter. Lesson Sequence: Students will read the poem and fun facts about Jupiter as a Whole class. Continue working on the KWL chart. Now that students will have More knowledge on Jupiter, really probe them for more things they want to know. Students will complete the Jupiter work packet and then write in their science Journals. 3-2-1 strategy. Accommodations: Same as previous lesson

Supplementary Materials: KWL chart, poem about Jupiter, work packet, journals Review/Assessment: Informal assessment- discussion, completion and Accuracy of work packets and writing in science journals Reflection: Students are really getting used to the strategy used and routine we Are using for learning the planets. They like learning about a new planet every day. It should be noted that students will have time to go back and work on various work Packets from earlier in the unit when they have completed other assignments early.
