The faith-filled parishioners of Saint Joseph Catholic Church of Arma, in union with the Blessed Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, value tradition and prayer. We are committed to strong leadership, responsive community service, and forming caring, welcoming, intimate relationships with our fellow brothers and sisters. We seek to become a more diverse, vibrant, active church family. Notes from the Pastor: This weekend is the Solemnity of Christ the King. This was declared by Pope Pius XI on December 11, 1925 in his encyclical Quas Primas which means In the first. While the kingship has been revealed to us throughout the Scriptures from the Old Testament to the New Testament, and has been embraced by Christians from early times up to the present, yet, every now and then forces of evil seems to corrupt the attitude of many believers that necessitates the declaration of this festivity! Pope Pius XI said these manifold evils in the world were due to the fact that the majority of men had thrust Jesus Christ and his holy law out of their lives; that these had no place either in private affairs or in politics: and we said further, that as long as individuals and states refused to submit to the rule of our Savior, there would be no really hopeful prospect of a lasting peace among nations (Quas Primas, Introduction) With Christ the King we are reminded to be subject to Gods rule, not in the rule of man. It was adherence to this truth that many of our Christian brothers and sisters were martyred in their faith. Subjection to the reign of Christ means that we accepted Christ as our law-giver, our judge, and the Chief Executive Himself. The great difference in the law of Christ is that His is a law of love. His judiciary is based on mercy and clemency although divine justice is assured at the final judgment. But as an executive He has given us the Gospel imperatives: to love God, to love our neighbor and to show our obedience to His commands in our works and actions! Hopefully, the annual and universal celebration of the feast of the Kingship of Christ will draw attention to the evils which anticlericalism has brought upon society in drawing men away from Christ, and will also do much to remedy them. While nations insult the beloved name of our Redeemer by suppressing all mention of it in their conferences and parliaments, we must all the more loudly proclaim his kingly dignity and power, all the more universally affirm his rights. This weekend we will be distributing the Stewardship Renewal Forms. I did this last year and I believe this has been done in our parish for many years now. To encourage all of you to return the blue form (keep the other for yourself) I attached a raffle ticket stub in it. Please cut the right half and retain for yourself and return the other half with your form. The stubs will be raffled on December 16 with prizes: $100 for first prize, $50 for second prize, and $25.00 for third prize, and other minor prizes. So please read them and fill them up and you may drop your renewal form in the collection basket or hand them to me personally after the mass. This Monday to Friday (November 26 to 30) I will be gone for my annual retreat at the Our Lady of Angels Monasterys Shrine of the Most Blessed Eucharist located in Hanceville, Alabama. Consequently we will have no masses and adoration during these days. In case of emergency please contact Faith Paonis cell at 724-2936 and she will be glad to assist you. Please pray for the success of my retreat as I will certainly pray for you while there. God bless you all! Fr. The Feast of Christ the King and the Last Four Things Death, judgment, heaven, and hell--these are the four last things of Man and they are topics that we dont like to think about, but need to. We have to face up to the undeniable fact that no matter what happens, well come to an end on this earth and well come face to face with eternity. God revealed to us that there is life beyond death and that His Judgment on our lives will mean eternity in heaven or in hell. We dont know how much more than that, even after reading the Book of Revelation. Hell and heaven, in the new Testament, unfortunately, are usually described in images or terms that are very difficult to understand. This is the last Sunday of the year and a perfect time to discuss these four terms, or at least begin to, for they are such vast topics. This weekend, we celebrate the Feast of Christ, the King. Hes not the king that most Americans think of when they think of a king. It doesnt involve political power or kingdom, or an army. Jesus kingship isnt marked by a guest for raw power, but by love and self-giving. He reigns over the minds and hearts of His disciples. There is also a contradiction about His kingdom, for it is both present and future. Luke says in Ch. 17, The reign of God is at hand. Its all about carrying ones daily crosses, remaining humble, and for those whove faithfully lived the kingdom life on earth, will then inherit the Kingdom of God forever! When you pray the Our Father, pay particular attention to the phrase, thy Kingdom come, for in it, were pleading that the Kingdom of God may come more completely into our lives and that, in the future, it will be our lasting home. Later, we can look at each of these 4 Last Things in more depth. Hope your Thanksgiving was extra -special and that you ate your share of the goodies!

St. Catherine Laboure and the Miraculous Medal This year, 2012, marks the 182nd anniversary of the Miraculous Medal. On November 27, 1830, when Catherine Laboure was only 24, the Blessed Mother came to her while she was at prayer in her convent in Paris. All the sisters knew of Catherines devotion to the Blessed Mother. At first, she saw a soft light and she looked up. There was the Blessed Virgin, standing on a globe of the world, with streams of light coming from each her hands. She appeared, as if within a frame, and the words of a prayer were written over her head and around the edges of the frame. The frame Parish Finance Council: turned and she could see the back of the picture. She saw a cross, and at its foot, the Chair Fred Bogina letter M. Below it was the Heart of Jesus, with a crown of thorns; and next to it, the Members Bill Harman, Judy Wingebach, Linda Broyles heart of Mary, pierced with a sword. The Lady whispered to Catherine, Have a medal made after this model. Great blessings will come to those who wear the medal and say often the words that are on Special Thanks-We would like to thank Debra Schaub for being the it. When the picture disappeared, Catherine gave her drawing of the medal to the Cantor at 8:00 Mass. Sister Superior and asked if she would have the medal made. In due time, it was finished and Catherine was the first person to wear it. Medals were distributed to those Spaghetti Feed Planning Committee-will meet on Wednesday, No- who asked, and soon, they grew in popularity. Great miracles happened wherever the vember 28 at 6pm in the rectory. All committee members and anyone medal was worn including miraculous cures of the sick and the conversion of sinners. interested in assisting with the planning of the dinner should attend. This is why it is called the Miraculous Medal.
