PRODUCT BENEFITS
Product Overview
NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator is a PC based tool for simulating the signalling and traffic against 3G WCDMA (UTRA-FDD) NodeB in Iub interface. It can be used for testing the NodeB without a real RNC and Core network infrastructure. RRC integrity protection support enables L3 testing with commercial User Equipment. The most effective tool for NodeB > Functional testing > Final factory testing > Conformance testing The protocols supported by RNC/Iub Simulator are AAL5, SSCOP, UNI, AAL2 signaling, Frame Protocols, MAC, RLC, NBAP, RRC, MM and CC. Flexible and distributable scripting utilities offer efficient way to define test cases and to build up customised testing interfaces. NETHAWK RNC/IUB SIMULATOR CONCEPT > NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator software > Hybrid Server HW > M5 Monitoring option > ACSU for accurate clock reference

1. Cost effective PC based product 2. Replaces expensive RNC infrastructures 3. Gives kick-start to HSDPA/HSUPA testing and demonstrations. Includes ready-to-run HSDPA/HSUPA scripts and BER support. 4. Powerful test case platform. Customer specific test cases with scripts or other applications running on top of the Simulator. 5. Powerful load testing capabilities 6. Monitoring window to understand test case behaviour and analyse unexpected NodeB or UE events

FUNCTIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS

SOFTWARE
NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulation

ENVIRONMENT OVERVIEW
NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator can be used as stand alone test equipment or as a part of the larger test system. NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator contains DCOM interface, so it can be also controlled from some external client, which supports DCOM. This kind of client can be a test sequencer, script runs in Internet Explorer or other software written in language supporting DCOM.

NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulation contains necessary implementation of the protocols in order to emulate message scenarios of Iub interface. Procedures are easy to activate and the simulator responds to certain incoming messages automatically. The procedure activation sequences can be recorded as script blocks for easy repetition. You can also edit the messages using ASN.1 and XML or with hex dump and decoder preview depending on the protocol layer. You can control the message sequences completely from the scripts.

NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator

All this is possible via the simulation user interface featuring simulation command menus, Console window for full control of the simulation, Call and AAL2/AAL5 conncection status windows and the Script Viewer window showing the dialog of the currently active script file. There is also a runtime help instructing in activating the procedures.
NetHawk Link Statistics

NetHawk Link Statistics is an application for monitoring bit error rates over 3G Iub and Um interfaces. RNC/Iub Simulator generates bit patterns and sends them to NodeB and user equipment. The data can be looped back in the user equipment. Link Statistics application can calculate Bit error rate (BER), frame error rate (FER) and block error rate (BLER) from the bit pattern received from the NodeB.
NetHawkM5 Monitoring

Structural Overview of the NetHawk RNC/Iub Simulator

NetHawk M5 Monitoring option decodes and analyses 3G protocols in various formats, levels of details and coding options. Statistics information about the traffic is collected simultaneously with the analysis. The traffic can also be recorded on the PC hard disk for later analysis. NetHawk M5 Monitoring option contains powerful, easy to use environment for setting filters and triggering different actions. Monitoring waits specified events or messages and the selected action of filter is performed. The runtime help and protocol help give guidance in using the monitoring.

NetHawk Script Builder

NetHawk Script Builder is a visual tool for creating and modifying test scripts. User interface of the scripts is implemented with HTML. The controlling part of the scripts is implemented with JScript or VBScript. Scripting help contains step by step instructions on making scripts and also includes reference for the functions for controlling scripts. Both NetHawk Script Builder and Script Viewer in the simulation user interface utilise the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser and its scripting features. Thus, in addition to HTML, also DHTML and ActiveX controls can be used in script user interface production.

HARDWARE RNC/Iub Simulator uses Hybrid Server HW which includes STM1/OC-3 interface. NodeB is connected using fiber cable to the Hybrid Server. Hybrid Server HW has three Ethernet interfaces. The first is connected using cross-over cable to the PC running RNC/Iub Simulator UI, the second Ethernet is connected using cross-over cable to the PC running M5M and the the third Ethernet is connected to LAN for IP gateway functionality. IP gateway allows to connect 3rd party IP servers (i.e Web Server and video stream server) to the Simulator.
