1. PURPOSE:

Prevent stagnation of the nurses. Offers a learning and development opportunity. Enhances nurses professional growth and development.

2. DEFINITION:
2.1 It is a method to ensure that nurses are competent to provide care to group of patients that he / she doesnt have experience.This is accomplished by orientation to certain area, testing knowledge of caring for the patients.

3. POLICY:

3.1 Increase knowledge, know -how skills and work performance improves. 3.2 Better coordination and teamwork. 3.3 Erases differences and unhealthy competition.
3.4 Leads to the sharing of organizational goals and objectives.

4. PROCEDURES : 4.1 The most widely used form of cross training is job rotation which is usually on extended period from one month to six months. 4.2 In job rotation, the nurse is not considered as trainee, but is responsible over certain job functions. 4.3 Both cross training and job rotation create a team of workers, who are knowlegeable,

can easily replace each other. 4.4 Nursing Department faces some difficulty in implementing such techniques due to the refusal of the staff to be voluntary cross train. It is up to Nursing Management and convince them that this is of staff benefits to their careers.

3.1.5 In Nursing Department, the first two days can be considered as training period, since the time will be spent training. Explaining to them, answering questions and dis cussions. After the first two days, the trainees will become fully functional. 3.1.6. Define and analyze the expected benefits to those who would participate to the department involved and to the institution in general. 3.1.7 A policy, procedure and detailed planning for each activity communicating it verbally and by memorandum to each trainee and receiving head nurses.
