software engineers approach systems using their own specialized technical knowledge. Engineers are often spread across several sites each with different cultures, and ownership of the system is spread across many (sub-)organizations. The upshot is misunderstood or dropped requirements, and teams heading in different, sometimes contradictory, directions. To converge we need to construct teams to maximize communication efficiency, to identify all the stakeholders in the system. They need to dig deeply to discover the underlying requirements, and build unified sets of requirements that can be tested. We begin with use cases, stories, epics or features (pick your favorite term), and abstract from those requirements to create various models that capture context, subject matters, and even executable behavior (possibly in SysML). Then and only then do we divide the work to the various specialized experts for construction. This webinar outlines how to progress vague ideas of what the system must do into a single unified understanding suitable for transformation into implementation.
