Date: 3rd of April, 2009 Mentor: Claudia Bolcas Student: Silviana Secara School: Liceul Teologic Baptist Emanuel Class: 2nd grade Level: Elementary Title of the lesson: We Celebrate Easter Type of lesson: Consolidation and Reading lesson Number of students: 28 Time: 50 minutes Objectives: By the end of the lesson students will be able to: name some of the animals related to Easter (bunny, duck, chick); remember the colours in English (red, green, orange, blue, pink, etc.); remember the numbers in English; use words like Resurrection, basket, celebration. 2.Pre-reading 8

To introduce the purpose of the lesson

Teacher tells the students: I will give you a few words and you have to put them in the right order to guess what are we going to talk about today. The words are: egg, paint, when, we, celebration. So, what is our topic for today ? Very good. Today we are going to talk about Easter. What is Easter?

Students answer: The answer is when we paint eggs. On Easter we paint eggs..

A student answers: On Easter we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.

3. Reading and To lead to a detailed Comprehension understanding of the article To see if the students 6 understood the text

Good. I have a poem for you. The teacher gives each student a handout containing the poem. (h1)

Who wants to read the poem? Ok. Do you like the poem? So, what does the Easter egg bring you if you are good children? Yes, but you must be good children for this. Lets read together the poem Lets try to learn the poem. Repeat after me: With a hip and a hop/Easter bunny wont you stop/At my house to hide some yummy little eggs. Now, who can tell me the first stanza? Very good

Easter bunny brings us eggs in bright bags.

Students and the teacher read together the poem. Students repeat after the teacher each verse, and then the whole stanza. A student tries to tell by heart the first stanza.

4. Checking To revise their knowledge Comprehension about colours and numbers 28

Now, lets colour an Easter bunny. The teacher gives each student handouts with an Easter bunny(h2). You have down the page a square, a star, a triangle, a heart. You have to guess the colour and when that sign is drawn on the bunny, you must colour using that colour.(While saying the geometrical figures, the teacher draws them on the blackboard).

Lets see the first: we have a square; what is the colour you must use in the square? Very good. So where the square is present, you must use red. Ok? Lets see next: what colour is the triangle? What colour is the heart? What colour is the rhomb? What colour is the sun? What colour is the cross? What colour is the spot? What colour is the star? During this, the teacher gives the students time to colour the bunny with the right colour. The teacher also supervises the students and helps them when needed. After finishing drawing the bunny: Very good. Your bunny is very colourful. Give the bunny to your parents as a gift for Easter, to see what talented children they have. Now I have another handout for you. The teacher gives handout3 to the students.

What do you have to write at the top of the page? Good. So write your names and the date. What date is today? How do we write April. With capital letter, right? At the first exercise you have to complete with the right words. You may speak with your desk mate. During the activity, the teacher supervises the students. Are you done? Lets check the answers.

Very good. Lets go on to exercise two. You have to count the animals. So, please count them. Read the question and the answer. Lets go on. And the last one.

The students count the ducks and geese.

The student reads the question and says that there are thirtyone ducks and geese. How many bunnies do you see? There are fourteen

bunnies. How many chick do you see? I see six chicks.
