Guidelines for contact programmes, couselling and other related activities

The detailed programme schedule for the contact sessions shall be divided into the following four components : Academic Counselling 115 hours School based activities 15 hours each Workshops 12 days X 2 24 days Teaching Practice 60 hours Academic Counselling : The Academic Counsellors should be experienced teacher educators having requisite qualifications as prescribed under NCTE guidelines. The programme Co-ordinator will prepare a routine on the courses to be discussed during counselling on Sundays according to their convenience and availability of counsellors of specific courses. The trainees to be advised to study the courses (SLMs) provided to them on their own. They will clear their doubts during the counselling sessions as per the routine provided. Eighty percent (80%) attendance in counselling will be compulsory. More emphasis should be given during counselling on the practical activities rather than on the SLMs. Time to be allotted for contact sessions : There are 14 (fourteen) no. of theory courses in two years - in the first year 6 (six courses) of 100 marks each and 1 (one) course of 50 marks and in the second year 3 (three courses) of 100 marks each and four courses of 50 marks each. Approximately 10 (ten) hours of counselling may be allotted for every 100 mark courses. However the time allotted may vary keeping in view the marks, lengths and difficulty levels of the courses.

The assignments Teachers Training Programme barriers... for the trainees will be prepared by the University and will be uploaded in the internet along with the guidelines for completing the assignment. The co-ordinator will advise the trainees to download the assignments or help the trainees to get the assignments. Each study centre will fix the last date of submission of assignments. The assignment responses should be evaluated by the academic counselors assigned for each courses. After Evaluation, the academic counselors will have to return the assignment responses to the respective trainees along with specific comments on the quality of the responses. The counselor should clearly point out to the trainees if there is any deficiency in any area of their responses so that the trainees do not repeat the same mistake again. The assignment responses should be collected back from the trainees before the term-end examinations and kept in the study centres.

B. PRACTICUM COURSES

School Based Activities : Appointment of the Mentors : Preferably the headmasters of the respective schools of the trainees will have to act as mentors for mentoring the school based activities given under Group C: maintenance of Workbook. For the other two types of activities, i.e. Group A: Work and Education and Group B: School and Health, mentors may be appointed from among the following persons : Intellectual and experienced teacher of a school or nearby higher secondary school Retired teacher of a nearby area having immense contribution in the field of education Intellectual and experienced teacher of a nearby college One mentor will have to supervise the activities of minimum twenty (20) numbers of teacher trainees. The appointed mentors will have to visit the schools from time to time to authenticate the activities of the trainees assigned to him/her. Practice Teaching The teacher trainees will have to prepare/write minimum 20 lesson plans (10 lesson plans in each method subject) and submit their lesson plans in the respective study centres.

Teachers Training Programme Education beyond barriers... may be supervised by the mentors and rest of the classes may be supervised by peer
teachers. Appointment of Supervisors : The experienced teachers with B.Ed./M.Ed. degree should be appointed as supervisors for supervising the practice teaching classes. The supervisors will have to supervise minimum five classes per trainee (minimum two classes in each of the method courses). One supervisor will have to supervise around twenty (20) numbers of teacher trainees. C. WORKSHOPs Workshop-I is scheduled to be held for twelve (12) days in the first year during the winter holidays (December/January, 2012). Workshop-II is scheduled to be held for twelve days in the second year during the summer holidays. The Resource Persons for conducting the workshops should be experts in the field of teacher education.
