Amber Reohorn TASK 9 FORMAL PROPOSALS

Title of magazine I have chosen to name my music magazine verve; I have chosen this name because its short, catchy and represents the type of music my magazine will feature very well, because of these factors it will attract my target audience. It also has the connotations of being quite dynamic with a slight edge; however it has the energy that the music gives across to its audience. Choice of genre I have chosen indie/rock as my genre, I have chosen this genre because I have background knowledge within the genre, and also as it is one of my personal interests in music. This is because I have always been swayed by indie/rock, mainly from contrast in calm but energetic vibe; I also like the style of the genre and the geniality of it. Therefore I have a clear idea of what would be expected in an indie/rock magazine. I like the structure and tone of Q magazine, which has influenced me in my decision. My Target audience The indie/rock typical target audience would mainly be Caucasian people from both genders although it is open to anyones interest; that is why I have decided to aim my magazine on both male and females from the age range 16-24. Therefore I have decided to use Caucasian female to be the front cover because I want to bring across the style of the genre and to attract the male audience, this is mainly because a female front cover attracts a wider audience than a male. Initial ideas for Front Cover For my front cover, I am planning to use a medium shot of the chosen female, who is dressed to suit the indie genre my magazine is representing. I have decided to use calm but bold colours for the title of my magazine, and find the opposite side of the spectrum to add to the colour scheme, which will be continued throughout my magazines contents page and double page spread. Furthermore for the sell lines, it is ideal to be related to the artist on the front cover, latest fashion trends for the chosen genre and current indie/rock artists. Initial ideas for My Contents page For the contents page, the masthead will be a large V to represent the name of my magazine, so that it doesnt take the attention away from the fact its my contents page, which is the other title next to the name. The titles will be in contrasting colours in order to stand out. I will also place all the features along the side which will be categorised. Whilst on the opposing side, there will be 2 or more images of either other bands or the cover girl, to show the other features in the magazine. I will also be adding an editors note to my readers to allow the reader to feel as if it more personal. Initial ideas for my article For the double page spread, I intent to do an interview with the cover girl, by using both text and images, which wont be the same images as the one of the front cover and contents page. The article will be about a new artist in the indie/rock genre and allowing the reader to get to know her, and give them an idea of what her music is like. This way my article wont be dominantly text based, so the reader will not lose interest in my magazine, as there will be a

page devoted to either one or more images, reflecting the persona of the artist and her style music.

Initial ideas for photographs The front cover photography, I have decided to use a medium shot of my female artist. For the contents page I will use a variety of different shot types of the artists/bands, I will try and use a mixture of males and females to show the magazine is not targeted for a specific gender. Lastly for the double page spread, I want to use a variety of camera shots again, to express the artist in the interview; I have chosen to use a close up for at least one of the images to reveal facial expressions. I will probably go for a plain white background. For the cover I will use a background that relates to the indie/rock genre, although I do not know what that will be at the moment.
