Definition
(SPE) Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) refers to a variety of processes to increase the amount of oil removed from a reservoir, typically by injecting a liquid (e.g., water, surfactant) or gas (e.g., nitrogen, carbon dioxide). (SLB Oilfield glossary) Enhanced Oil Recovery -The third stage of hydrocarbon production during which sophisticated techniques that alter the original properties of the oil are used. Enhanced oil recovery can begin after a secondary recovery process or at any time during the productive life of an oil reservoir. Its purpose is not only to restore formation pressure, but also to improve oil displacement or fluid flow in the reservoir.
Definition (continued)
(Wikipedia) Enhanced Oil Recovery (abbreviated EOR) is a generic term for techniques for increasing the amount of oil that can be extracted from an oil field. Using EOR, 30-60 %, or more, of the reservoir's original oil can be extracted compared with 20-40% using primary and secondary recovery. Enhanced oil recovery is also called improved oil recovery or tertiary recovery (as opposed to primary and secondary recovery).
Definition (continued)
(EOR Experts) EOR- any method that increases oil production by using techniques or materials that are not part of normal pressure maintenance or water flooding operations.
