Dear Citizen,

Theft related crimes are prevalent in our community and across the Commonwealth. These crimes include everl.thing from minor thefts from unlocked vehicles, unlawfully entering another persons'
residence in order to take power tools and jewelry, to large scale commercial business burglaries.

Victims of these crimes know no gender, age, or race; everyone is susceptible and we all suffer in
one way or another. The main reason theft related offenses occur is narcotic drug addiction. The

most common way an addict obtains money to buy narcotic drugs is to steal items and then sell them to a business or individual. The Winchester Police Department has had great success in recovering many of these stolen items at pawn shops or other businesses when a detailed description of the items is given to the first responding officer to a theft call-for-service. By far, the best information a victim can give is the serial number associated with the item stolen.

Please take a moment and

print out the attached Personal Inventory Sheet. The sheet should be

retained in a secure location and then presented to the officer if you become a victim of theft.

Again, law enforcement is most successful in recovering stolen property with a detailed
description and serial number. Please help us recover your stolen valuables.
