The beginning of 2013 is filled with special events, including the monthly First Saturday Art Crawls (nashvilledowntown. com/play) through downtown Nashville galleries from Fifth Avenue of the Arts to Broadway featuring renowned local and national artists. Show-stopping live theater options abound at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (tpac.org), including Catch Me If You Can Jan. 22-27, Cabaret Feb. 14-March 9, Flashdance March 19-24, Rock of Ages April 19-20, and Disneys The Lion King May 7-June 2. As expected, Music City is filled with mega-concerts featuring every genre of music. The GrammyAwardwinning Nashville Symphony (nashvillesymphony.org) performs a full slate of classical and pops concerts from downtowns beautiful Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Bridgestone Arena (bridgestonearena.com/calendar.php) plays host to blockbuster acts, including teen idols Justin Bieber on Jan. 18 and One Direction on June 19. It is also home ice for the NHL Nashville Predators,
with games most every week through mid-April. Other concert venues include the Ryman Auditorium (ryman.com), which has recently hosted a variety of artists from The Wiggles to Death Cab for Cutie, LP Field, Municipal Auditorium (nashvilleauditorium.com), the Grand Ole Opry House (opry.com), and a host of smaller venues and concert halls. Theres a certain madness in the March air when teams descend on Bridgestone Arena for the 2013 SEC Mens Basketball Tournament (March 14-17), followed closely by a bevy of designers from
around the country who fly in for Nashville Fashion Weeks runway shows and events (nashvillefashionweek.com). Beautiful weather isnt the only thing amazing about April. The extravaganza of music and marathons, film and family events has led to the month being dubbed Awesome April! It begins with a celebration of songwriters at the 21st Annual Tin Pan South (April 2-6) and races out on the heels of more than 35,000 enthusiasts running to the rhythm
of 50 bands playing on 28 stages during the St. Jude Country Music Marathon and 1/2 Marathon Presented by Nissan (April 27). In between, the city hosts the acclaimed Nashville Film Festival, Southern Womens Show, Rites of Spring Music Festival at Vanderbilt and a host of top performers in venues around town. Spring rounds out on a sporting note with the NHL Nashville Predators (predators.nhl.com) shooting for the post-season and Nashville Sounds baseball (nashvillesoundsbaseball.com) in full swing.

As spring melts into summer, its time for the latest class of honorees to be inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame, which pays tribute to Nashvilles singers, songwriters and industry legends (visitmusiccity.com/ walkoffame). Also on tap are several large craft festivals, including a major event by the Tennessee Association of Craft Artists at Centennial Park and the popular Movies in the Park series. June is a music-lovers dream. The CMA Music Festival (cmaworld. com) fills four days from June 6-9 with unprecedented access to your favorite stars through fan events, an annual celebrity softball game, the CMT Music Awards, daytime block parties and star-studded evening concerts. down the road, the annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival (bonnaroo.com) features an incredible array of musical acts, and the Nashville Fringe Festival (nashvillefringefestival.org) celebrates all things artistic, including dance, music, crafts, film and performance art. The Nashville Shores waterpark, located on Percy Priest Lake, is a popular place for the whole family to cool down. Home to block after block of gorgeous Victorian homes, this area found the fountain of youth as young urban pioneers restored homes, reclaimed streets and opened a number of cool shops, galleries and restaurants. ust north of downtown lies Germantown, a popular neighborhood with restored historic buildings, hip new apartments and imaginative businesses such as The Cupcake Collection. Several of Nashvilles best restaurants are here, such as City House, presided over by James Beard regional award-winner Tandy Wilson, Germantown Caf and The Mad Platter. Swetts, on the edge of Germantown, is popular for its Southern-style home cooking and smokehouse favorites. Besides produce, the Nashville Farmers' Market boasts a selection of exotic eateries and interesting food-oriented shops. The impressive Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park is located at the foot of the hill that is home to the state capitol.

The Mall at Green Hills features more than 100 stores, from well-known names to smaller specialty boutiques, as well as several eateries. Nearby, Hill Center Green Hills is an outdoor shopping village with a variety of specialty boutiques and dining options. n the edge of Vanderbilt University sits Hillsboro Village. The area is dotted with charming shops and lively dining spots that draw big crowds on weekend nights, while a multitude of neighborhood events keeps the Village hopping all the time. The Belcourt Theatre, a restored historic gem, offers new and vintage films and live concerts. Looking for food? Check out Fido (one of Taylor Swifts favorite spots), Provence Breads & Cafe, Jacksons Bar & Bistro, Sunset Grill and Cabana. Pancake Pantry, with its huge menu of breakfast and lunch goodies, is a Nashville institution. A free Nashville Live Music app, (visitmusiccity.com/music) available for both iPhone and Android devices, locates live music venues throughout the city and tells you whos on stage. Users can search by area of town or venue name, and a handy map function will show your location and the live music venue options nearby. No app? No problem. The CVB also has set up a series of guitar pick signs that indicate a music venue. Also transforming the way people connect to music in Nashville is the Wayfinding Guidance System. The program integrates pedestrian maps and signage with local street and traffic guidance signs.
