Dear Kyle,

July, 2012

IN THIS ISSUE
Hot Enough? Top 10 Causes... Stay Safer

We hope you enjoyed your July Fourth celebration. It's great to be with family and friends this time of year. Summer came in with a vengence showing us just how hot it can get in Charlotte.Record breaking temperatures have already blown the record books off the shelf and it looks like there's more to come. Decent humidity for part of the heatwave has lessened the blow but even that is giving way to good ole summertime in the South. Official Charlotte had three days in a row over 100 degrees in 2007. That was in August when we logged six days over the century mark and twice at 104. June's ( 2012) 104-degree reading was the fifth time it has happened in Charlotte. The Queen City also had a 104-degree high on Sept. 6, 1954, (and on Aug. 9 and 10, 2007). The record for most consecutive 100-degree days is five, set from July 17-21 in 1986. Below, we have listed some tips to protect your car from heat.

Heat Busters!
Man it's Hot! Automobiles in the scorching heat fair worse but there are some common sense things you can do to bring down the potential for damage. If your car has leather seats, get a leather conditioner and apply to the seats to prevent cracks and dry spots. Also, vinyl dashboards are vulnerable to temperature changes. Keep protective wipes in the glove box, and use them when needed to keep your investment crack free. Parking Place Choose shade. Also use reflective sun shades inside the car to protect the interior. When possible, park in a garage away from sun and heat damage. Reminder - Never leave a child or pet in a hot car even for a minute.

5. Using an electric razor, applying makeup, or other personal hygienerelated actions; 6. Unwrapping a burger, opening a can, or other movements when eating at the wheel; 7. External distractions such as pointing out a funny billboard or pedestrian; 8. Talking or singing to yourself; 9. Smoking; and 10. Daydreaming. Inattention is the leading factor in most car wrecks. Whether that is from talking on your cell phone, tuning the radio, eating, or simply daydreaming. Everyone knows that if you are talking on your cell phone or texting while driving, you do not have 100% of your attention on the road. The on going debate- Should cellular devices be banned while driving? As we reported to you in a recent newsletter,Chapel Hill, NC was going to pass a law banning cell phone use until a law suit stopped the proceedings. The ban did not take effect. We will keep you posted. Could Charlotte be next? What are your thoughts?

How to Avoid A Car Accident.

Minimize distractions. Be certain YOU are NOT the problem. Cell phones, music, food-can all distract you. Remember - distractions are the number one cause of accidents and fatalities on the road. Keep yourself alert. Never drive sleepy or under the influence of substance or strong

emotion. You need to react quickly to potential problems. Be sure you are sober and well rested before driving. Be aware of your environment. Pay attention to activities around you. Check your mirrors frequently and scan conditions ahead of you-not just the car directly in front of you. Watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and animals. Allow for other drivers. 'Give' to avoid a crash. If a car is driving aggressively or unpredictably, slow down or pull over. Don't tailgate. You should have at least two to three seconds of extra room between you and the car in front of you. If you drive an SUV, make it at least three seconds, as it takes longer for you to stop than a regular passenger car.

Thank you for being our customer. We appreciate you very much. Have a great summer. Sincerely, Carl Patterson The Body Shop Collision Center 704-918-5016 5016 North Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC
