Time for New Beginnings

"This is a time for reflection as well as celebration. As you look back on the past year and all that has taken place in your life, Remember each experience for the good that has come of it and for the knowledge you have gained. Remember the efforts you have made and the goals you have reached. Remember the love you have shared and the happiness you have brought. Remember the laughter, the joy, the hard work, and the tears. And as you reflect on the past year, also be thinking of the new one to come. Because most importantly, this is a time of new beginnings and the celebration of life."

The American Indian Resource Center of Marathon County (A.I.R.C.) would like to wish you and your family a Happy New Year! The past year was event-filled and exciting and we look forward to serving American Indian people and the community in 2013. We would like to thank our donors for their help during the past year, including the Forest County Potawatomi Foundation for their $30,000 grant and the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin for their $2,500 grant for our Cultural Connections programs. Without these donors, the Center could not serve Native people or the community. Migwetch, Pinagigi, Waewaenen, Yawv, Thank you for your generous support and thank you to all the volunteers, employees, the Wausau School District, and anyone else who has had a hand in our success. The A.I.R.C. is looking forward to celebrating our 2nd anniversary in March 2013 and hope to continue to grow and expand with you!

Benefit for A.I.R.C. Director

Three years ago, A.I.R.C. Director, Dylan Prescott, was diagnosed with Diabetes. He has been dealing with the damage done by the disease. Dylan has suffered numerous hemorrhages in his eyes, Bells Palsy, weak immune system, pneumonia, fatigue and worst of all kidney failure. His kidneys are far too damaged to be saved and he was told he would need a kidney transplant. This was of course very devastating news for him, his family and everyone who loves him. For the past year, he has been waiting to be cleared for the transplant as well as to find a donor. Watching his health diminish and the emotional toll it has taken on his family, his girlfriend, Jen Rasmussen, A.I.R.C Jr. & Sr. Youth advisor, chose to get tested as a donor. All the tests came back perfect and the transplant team gave them the go ahead for the kidney transplant. Along with strong faith and even more support from friends and family, the surgery will be on February 13, 2013 in Madison, WI. Friends and family are organizing a benefit on behalf of Dylan and Jen on February 2, 2013, starting at 5pm at the VFW in Wausau. All you can eat (Indian tacos, chicken) and drink will be included in the admission price of $20.00. There will also be a variety of raffle items including a trip for 2 to Las Vegas, NV. River Valley Bank will be accepting monetary donations on Dylan's behalf under Dylan's Transplant Fund. The A.I.R.C. is also accepting donations on the family's behalf. Dylan is a very giving man with a big heart who is always willing to help others. He is the backbone of the cultural aspect of the A.I.R.C. and has taught many Native and non-Native people. He is very humble and thankful for everything he has.
