Mr. Brian Young District Engineer State Highway Administration District - 3 9300 Kenilworth Avenue Greenbelt, Maryland 207 7 0
Dear Mr. Young: The Prince George's County Police Department has completed the first year of our Speed Enforcement Program. Attached, you will find the evaluation of our seven Maryland State Roadways on which we have deployed cameras. The deployment period of these cameras range from two months to nine months, ending September 24,2012 (the one year anniversary of our program). The time range of deployment for these cameras varies depending on approval by the State Highway Administration, signage completion and camera installation.
You will find that this program has been very successful by a reduction in speeding and accidents on these roadways. As an example, V/oodyard Road (MD 223) at James Madison Middle School, has experienced over a72%o increase in compliance with the posted speed limit in the northbound direction and in the southbound direction, a46%o 'We increase in compliance. have also received positive feedback from the school administrations involved at these locations.
The Prince George's County Police Department is committed to traffic safety on all of our County's roadways. We look forward to our continued partnership with the Maryland State Highway Administration. If you need any additional information, please call me at (301) 772-4740 or contact the Automated Enforcement Project Manager, Major Robert Liberati, at (240) 832-9857
