MSFC-MAN-010 IBM NO. 67-96610005 In the event the primary laynard does not cause Umbilical Assembly release, the second laynard attached to the torque tube is actuated when the vehicle has risen approximately 18 inches from the pad. The action of the second laynard pulls the torque tube and cam a r m down which actuates the mechanical 4-ball lock assembly release, and subsequent removal of the Umbilical Assembly. 2- 5 ELECTRICAL EJECT PLATE ASSEMBLY

Umbil Assy, Sat. V Section I1

Umbilical Assembly are not required for the Test Assembly, but the quantity and configuration of electrical cables a r e identical with the cables supplied to the Instrument Unit from the Apollo-Saturn Service Arm.

2-8

INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL PROCEDURES

The Eject Plate (see Figure 1-4) functions a s an interface between the ground support input electrical cables and the IU Housing Assembly for the purpose of disconnecting the electrical cables while performing plugs-out tests upon the Instrument Unit. Pneumatic pressure (GN2) of 750 psig is applied through the pneumatic input line into the Eject Plate manifold system and actuates the three pneumatic actuators.
By piston action, t e pneumatic actuators h slide the Eject Plate back and away from the IU Housing Assembly. Since the electrical connectors a r e mounted to the Eject Plate, the cable connectors a r e disconnected from the electrical receptacles located upon the IU Vehicle Plate Assembly (not shown).

The following procedures present information for the installation o the Umbilical Assembly onto the f Apollo-Saturn Vehicle. The procedures also include information necessary to accomplish the installation of the IU Housing Assembly and the S-IVB Carrier Assembly. All associated items required to complete the installation of the major components will be discussed. It i s assumed at this time that all components a r e in satisfactory condition and no maintenance is required prior to installation. NOTE Instructions for the maintenance or repair of items contained on major components a r e discussed within Section III. All designated torque values a r e in accordance with ABMA-STD-18, Threaded Fasteners; and MSFC Design Standard MC 245, Installation of Straight Thread Flared Tube Fittings, o r applicable engineering instructions. During the installation and removal proce dures, the following tools will be required:
a Torque wrench and adapters 1/4-inch

The action described does not affect either the 6-inch conditioning duct or the six quick disconnect couplings mounted upon the IU Housing Assembly. A flexible hose extends from the Eject Plate to the electrical eject mechanism located upon the S-IVB Carrier Assembly and will provide the pneumatic pressure to effect a simultaneous eject of the S-IVB Carrier Assembly electrical connectors. 2-6 ELECTRICAL GROUND SYSTEM

IU HOUSING ASSEMBLY ON S-IVB CARRDCR ASSEMBLY

During the following procedures refer to Figure 7- 1. NOTE

As illustrated on Figures 1-3, 1-4, and 1-5, electrical ground receptacles a r e located upon the IU Housing Assembly, Eject Plate, and the S-IVB C a r r i e r Assembly. These connectors receive the electrical cable shielding leads and provide a ground path to the Apollo-Saturn V Vehicle. 2-7
IU UMBILICAL HOUSING TEST ASSEMBLY

The quick disconnect couplings a r e r e moved from the I Housing Assembly U and a r e not installed at this time. INSTALLATION

The Test Assembly illustrated on Figure 1-6, depends upon the action of the 4-ball lock assembly and the four kickoff pistons to eject the Test Assembly. The cam a r m s and associated cams used upon the IU Changed 20 November 1970

a. Position IU Housing Assembly (1) beneath S-IVB Carrier supports so that IU Housing Assembly mounting holes a r e aligned with S - N B Carrier support mounting brackets.

b. Using 8 bolts (2) and flat washers (3) install the IU Housing Assembly. Leave the bolts loose so that the lower half of the Umbilical Assembly may be adjusted. REMOVAL a. Using standard shop practices remove the attaching bolts (2) and washers (3), then remove IU Housing Assembly (1) from Carrier Assembly (4).
2 - 10

until the lockbolt (7) tip is engaged in the lockbolt receptacle mounted on the IU Vehicle Plate Assembly

h. Release the lockbolt knob. This action locks the TU Housing Assembly in position.
i. Thread lockbolt (7, Figure 7-2) clockwise until finger tight only, thereby locking lockbolt with IU vehicle plate receptacle.

UMBILICAL ASSEMBLY ON APOLLO-SATURN VEHICLE

INSTALLATION a . Remove all service lines which may be attached to the umbilical. b. Assure that 4-ball lock assembly (hereafter r e f e r r e d to a s lockbolt) i s firmly seated within the IU Housing Assembly by rotating lockbolt (7, Fig. 7-2) counterclockwise until finger tight. NOTE It may be necessary to loosen locking nut (2) to firmly seat lockbolt. c. Position the Umbilical Assembly approximately 6 to 8 inches from the IU, and initially align the I U Housing Assembly with the IU Vehicle Plate Assembly. d. Loosen 4 bolts (34, Fig. 7-3) on each of the S -1VB C a r r i e r end assemblies (33, Fig. 7 -3 -DO NOT REMOVE BOLTS. e. Manually push bottom of Umbilical Assembly toward vehicle until the S-IVB Carrier end assemblies can be mated with the S-IVB Forward Umbilical Support Brackets (refer to Figure 2-3 for illustration of the mechanical mating). The end assemblies must r e s t over the supporting bolt as indicated on the Figure. When proper mating has occurred, the supporting bolt cannot be hand turned. f. With Umbilical Assembly mounted on S-IVB Forward Umbilical support brackets, push the UmU bilical Assembly toward the vehicle until the I Housing Assembly is aligned with the IU Vehicle Plate Assembly. g. Manually pull the lockbolt release knob (3, Fig. 7-2) out a s f a r as possible, and while holding in this position, push the IU Housing Assembly forward

No wrench or tool shall be used to tighten the lockbolt, a s this may cause failure to disconnect.

IU Housing Assembly attitude, when installed, must maintain a minimum gap between the IU Housing Assembly and the IU Vehicle Plate Assembly to ensure proper mating of all other U associated I Housing Assembly components. See Figure 1-3 for dimension to determine if minimum gap is obtained.
j. Thread lockbolt knob on release shaft until the knob contacts the release a r m (1, Fig. 7-2) and secure with locking nut (2).

k. Rotate S-IVB end assemblies (see Fig. 2-3) as far forward as possible -- surfaces must be touching a s illustrated in Figure 2-3. Tighten the eight end assembly bolts and torque 160-190 inch pounds. 1. Torque the eight' mounting bolts (2, Fig. 7- 1) 170 10 inch pounds.

REMOVAL NOTE All service lines leading to Umbilical Assembly must be removed.

a. Manually pull lockbolt knob (3, Fig. 7-2) away from release a r m (1, Fig. 7-2). This action will release lockbolt and allow the Umbilical Assembly to be moved back and away from the vehicle.
b. Pull entire Umbilical Assembly back and away from the vehicle. The Umbilical Assembly end assemblies pivot on the supporting bolts of the S-IVB Forward Umbilical support brackets (see Fig. 2-3), and a s the Umbilical Assembly is brought back and away, the S-IVB Carrier end assemblies
