I can break down more complex problems, with support, into simpler steps before attempting a solution. I can make choices when presenting something and justify why a method is effective. I can begin to tabulate systematically.

I can refine ways of recording using notation, diagrams and symbols correctly. I can begin to draw simple conclusions of my own and give an explanation of my reasoning. I can use mathematical language and notation to create a general statement in writing. Calculations I can rapidly recall square numbers to at least 25 x 25 to support estimation and calculation. I can use related facts of doubling or halving eg find the 24x table by doubling the 6x table twice

I can use efficient written methods to solve number problems as appropriate. I can solve multiplication problems using ThHTU x U and begin to solve HTU xTU, and solve problems involving decimals to one place and begin to extend to decimals up to two places. I can solve division problems with mixed number answers, TUTU with whole number answers and begin to divide decimal numbers by units. I can check results using tests of divisibility. I can begin to use the BODMAS rules appropriately I can recognise the multiplication and addition link to algebra (ie 4a = a+a+a+a) I can begin to use words to describe the rule for the next term of a linear sequence I can read and place coordinates in all four quadrants. Numbers and the number system I can use my understanding of place value to multiply and divide whole numbers by 10,100 and 1000. I recognise and explore relationships in more complex patterns such as

triangular numbers. I can order a set of positive and negative numbers. I can add or subtract a positive number to or from a negative number in context including crossing zero. I can begin to recognise common factors in the context of fractions. I can begin to calculate simple fractional parts or percentages of quantities and measurements, using informal methods. I can solve simple problems involving ratio and direct proportion using informal methods. Measures I know imperial units (lb oz) I can use the formula in words lx b for the area of a rectangle. I can calculate the perimeter and area of simple compound shapes that can be split into rectangles. I can use a protractor to measure acute and obtuse angles to the nearest degree. I can check that the sum of the angles of a triangle is 180 (eg by measuring)

I can calculate angles in a triangle I recognise where a shape will be after a rotation through 90 about one of its vertices. Space and Shape I can begin to describe and visualise properties of solid shapes such as parallel or perpendicular faces or edges. I can identify different nets for a closed cube. I recognise where a shape will be after reflection in a mirror line touching the shape at a point (sides of shapes not necessarily parallel or perpendicular to the mirror line) Handling Data I can interpret simple pie charts using the language of proportion I understand and find the median of a set of data. I can begin to understand the probability scale and express likelihood using the language of probability. I can begin to understand the likelihood of events such as throwing dice, spinning spinners and drawing beads from a bag. I can with some guidance carry out a probability experiment based on equally

likely outcomes.
