ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY REQUIREMENTS & DIRECTIONS

REQUIREMENTS Free from grammatical and mechanical errors. At least 10 annotated sources: 4 sources must be peer-reviewed. PURPOSE To inform the reader of the relevancy, accuracy, breadth, and quality of your sources. To understand interdisciplinary and multilevel research. To practice writing with sources. To practice summarizing, paraphrasing, and analyzing research sources. To develop an informed point of view about your research topic and argument.

DIRECTIONS Your annotated bibliography will amply demonstrate the depth and scope of your research for your research essay. PART ONE: AN INTRODUCTION: The introduction should provide an overview (approximately three paragraphs) of your research, explaining the scope and range of your research and how it relates to your topic. For example, you should note which sources are drawn from specific disciplines and how they enhance or illuminate your topic. You will want to discuss the relevance and significance of your research as well. PART TWO: THE ANNOTATED SOURCES: The annotated bibliography entries should include a paragraph (or more) summarizing, assessing, and reflecting upon the source. First, briefly summarize the main points of the source, explaining its range or scope. Second, assess the integrity of the source, noting the authors background or current relevance. Next, describe the relationship between this source and others. Finally, reflect upon how this source informs your topic. FORMATTING: Introduction: Double-spaced, 12pt font.
