Read the passage below and answer the question that follows.
Trees are very important to all of us. Hence, we need to take good care of
them. Trees produce life-giving oxygen. They absorb carbon dioxide while
helping to cool the area around them. When trees are cut down and burnt, they
release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. This increases the green house
effect which in turn creates global warming.
Trees provide shade and fruits to quench our hunger and thirst. Birds and
wildlife build their homes in the trees. When trees are destroyed, these creatures
lose their habitat and gradually become extinct.
Another important value of trees is they prevent soil erosion by holding the
soil together. When trees are removed, the top soil becomes loose and is easily
washed down by rain water. This can cause landslides which in turn cause rivers
to overflow and create floods. Cutting down of trees on a large scale can cause
rivers and streams to dry up.
Trees also have aesthetic value. They beautify and brighten up their
surrounding areas. They also help to relieve stress by providing a sight for sore
eyes.
