Then, he intended to attack the fox. When Tiger jumped on Fox, Fox cried out, "How dare you attack the king of the jungle?" Tiger looked at him in amazement. "Nonsense! You are not King!" "Certainly I am," replied the Fox. "All the animals run from me in terror! If you want proof, come with me." Fox went into the forest with tiger in heels. When they came to a herd of deer, the deer saw Tiger behind the Fox and ran in all direction. They came to a group of monkey, the monkey saw the tiger behind fox and they fled. Fox looked to tiger and said, "Do you need more proof than that? See how the animals flee at the first sight of me?" "I am surprised, but I've seen it with my own eyes. Forgive me attacking you, Great King." Tiger bowed low with great ceremony, he let the fox go. 2. Narrative Text folklore : The Legend of Toba Lake Once, a fisherman named Batara Guru Sahala lived in the Batak Land. One day, he caught a fish. He was surprised to find that the fish could talk. It begged Sahala toset it free. He did accordingly. As soon as the fish was free, it changed into a woman. She was so beautiful that Sahala fell in love at once. He asked her to marry him. The woman agreed to marry Sahala. However, she told him that he must never let out the secret that she was once a fish. Sahala promised that he would not tell anyone about it. They were happily married and had two daughters. Every morning Sahala went out fishing. One day, his daughters brought him his launch. However, instead of bringing food to their father, the two gtirls ate it. When Sahala knew what they had done with the meal, he got very angry. Cinderella
Once upon a time there lived an unhappy young girl. Her mother was dead and her father had married a widow with two daughters. Her stepmother didnt like her one little bit. All her kind thoughts and loving touches were for her own daughters. Nothing was too good for them dresses, shoes, delicious food, soft beds, and every home comfort. But, for the poor unhappy girl, there was nothing at all. No dresses, only her stepsisters hand-me-downs. No lovely dishes, nothing but scraps. No rest and no comfort. She had to work hard all day. Only when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders. Thats why everybody called her Cinderella. Cinderella used to spend long hours all alone talking to the cat. The cat said, . Miaow. , which really meant, . Cheer up! You have something neither of your stepsisters has and that is beauty.. It was quite true. Cinderella, even dressed in old rags, was a

lovely girl. While her stepsisters, no matter how splendid and elegant their clothes, were still clumsy, lumpy and ugly and always would be. One day, beautiful new dresses arrived at the house. A ball was to be held at the palace and the stepsisters were getting ready to go. Cinderella didnt even dare ask if she could go too. She knew very well what the answer would be: . You? Youre staying at home to wash the dishes, scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters. They will come home tired and very sleepy.. Cinderella sighed, . Oh dear, Im so unhappy!. and the cat murmured . Miaow.. Suddenly something amazing happened. As Cinderella was sitting all alone, there was a burst of light and a fairy appeared. . Dont be alarmed, Cinderella,. said the fairy. . I know you would love to go to the ball. And so you shall!. . How can I, dressed in rags?. Cinderella replied. . The servants will turn me away!. The fairy smiled. With a flick of her magic wand Cinderella found herself wearing the most beautiful dress she had ever seen. . Now for your coach,. said the fairy; A real lady would never go to a ball on foot! Quick! Get me a pumpkin!. . Oh of course,. said Cinderella, rushing away. Then the fairy turned to the cat. . You, bring me seven mice, and, remember they must be alive!. Cinderella soon returned with the pumpkin and the cat with seven mice he had caught in the cellar. With a flick of the magic wand the pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the mice became six white horses, while the seventh mouse turned into a coachman in a smart uniform and carrying a whip. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes. inderella had a wonderful time at the ball until she heard the first stroke of midnight! She remembered what the fairy had said, and without a word of goodbye she slipped from the Prince. s arms and ran down the steps. As she ran she lost one of her slippers, but not for a moment did she dream of stopping to pick it up! If the last stroke of midnight were to sound oh what a disaster that would be! Out she fled and vanished into the night. he Prince, who was now madly in love with her, picked up the slipper and said to his ministers, Go and search everywhere for the girl whose foot this slipper fits. I will never be content until I find her! So the ministers tried the slipper on the foot of every girl in the land until only Cinderella was left. That awful untidy girl simply cannot have been at the ball,. snapped the stepmother. . Tell the Prince he ought to marry one of my two daughters! Cant you see how ugly Cinderella is?. But, to everyone. s amazement, the shoe fitted perfectly. Suddenly the fairy appeared and waved her magic wand. In a flash, Cinderella appeared in a splendid dress, shining with youth and beauty. Her stepmother and stepsisters gaped at her in amazement, and the ministers said, Come with us Cinderella! The Prince is waiting for you. So Cinderella married the Prince and lived happily ever. As for the cat, he just said Miaow!.

4. Narrative Text Legend : Story Of Toba Lake Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in north Sumatera. He lived in a simple hut in a farm field. They did some gardening and fishing for his daily life. One day, while the man was fishing, he caught a big golden fish in his trap. It was the biggest catch which he ever had in his life. Surprisingly, this fish turned into a beautiful princess. He felt in love with her and proposed her to be his wife. She said; "Yes, but you have to promise not to tell anyone about the secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there will be a huge disaster". The man made the deal and they got married, lived happily and had a daughter. Few years later, this daughter would help bringing lunch to her father out in the fields. One day, his daughter was so hungry and she ate his fathers lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and shouted; You damned daughter of a fish. The daughter ran home and asked her mother. The mother started crying, felt sad that her husband had broke his promise. Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster was about to come. When her daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big earthquake followed by nonstop pouring rain. The whole area got flooded and became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the man became the island of Samosir. 5. Narrative Text myth : Malin Kundang A long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatra, a woman and her son lived. They were Malin Kundang and her mother. Her mother was a single parent because Malin Kundang's father had passed away when he was a baby. Malin Kundang had to live hard with his mother. Malin Kundang was a healthy, dilligent, and strong boy. He usually went to sea to catch fish. After getting fish he would bring it to his mother, or sold the caught fish in the town. One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing, he saw a merchant's ship which was being raided by a small band of pirates. He helped the merchant. With his brave and power, Malin Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and thanked to him. In return the merchant asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. To get a better life, Malin Kundang agreed. He left his mother alone. Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and was helped by many ship crews loading trading goods. Perfectly he had a beautiful wife too. When he was sailing his trading journey, his ship landed on a beach near a small village. The villagers recognized him. The news ran fast in the town; Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here. An old woman ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She was Malin Kundangs mother. She wanted to hug him, released her sadness of being lonely after so long time. Unfortunately, when the mother came, Malin Kundang who was in front of his well dressed wife and his ship crews denied meeting that old lonely woman. For three times her mother begged Malin Kundang and for three times he yelled at her. At last Malin Kundang said to her "Enough, old woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly woman!" After that he ordered his crews to set sail. He would leave the old mother again but in that time she was full of both sadness and angriness. Finally, enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn't apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and really set sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to apologize. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship. He fell on a small island. It was really too late for him to avoid his curse. Suddenly, he turned into a stone.

6. Narrative Text historical story : History of Prambanan

A long time ago in Prambanan palace lived a king named Baka with her beautiful daughter, Roro Jonggrang. Many rulers wanted to marry Roro Jonggrang, so they competed for her. When Prambanan was conquered by Bandung Bandawasa, King Baka was killed in a battle. The poor lone Roro Jonggrang was allowed to live, but she was supposed to marry him. She refused, making Bandung humiliated and offended. Roro Jonggrang struggle to escape. However, although she used all her supernatural power, she could not escape. Roro had to face the fact that the man she was dealing with was cagey and uncanny. Roro agreed to marry Bandung, but on one condition. Bandung had to present her with a big wonderful palace with one thousand sculptures in it. And it had to be done before sunrise. He agreed. Bandung immediately called his invisible friend for help. Bandung thought that fulfilling Roros wish would not be so difficult, because he was sure the group of evil spirits that he had defeated would help him. They did what their master ordered. Roro found out what Bandung was doing. She was worried. It appeared they would finish the work before morning and would not be stopped. What can I do? Roro thought in a panic. Suddenly she had an idea. She awoke her maid and nannies, and asked them to do their was a sun in the sky. So in that pitch dark night a game began. Bandung was surprise; the sky was red, the roosters were crowing, and the people were pounding rice. Meanwhile the job had not been finished. The evil spirits, although they felt sorry for their master, disappeared because they were scared of light. Bandung was there alone. When he found out that Roro has used tricks, he cursed her. He turned her into a stone, which completed the temple. There had been 999 statues; now there were 1000.
