Tenth-grade United States History to 1877 Semester Course Syllabus V.

. Nelson The purpose of this course syllabus is to ensure each student the opportunity to successfully complete the requirements for Tenth-grade United States History to 1877. Because this course is required for graduation, it is important that each student be familiar with the contents of this syllabus. Please read the entire syllabus carefully. If you have any questions, please ask. Parents and students should read and sign the syllabus. The signed portion is to be returned to Mrs. Heninger. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I. Course Description and Text Tenth-grade United States History to 1877 begins a two-year study of U.S. history that you will complete in the eleventh grade. We will focus on the political, economic, and social events that shaped the United States from its early history to Reconstruction. Homework Homework mainly consists of course lectures via videos and preparation for vocabulary and chapter tests. It is imperative that you watch the assigned videos and complete the notes guide. V. Course Evaluation All grading is done using the point system. Each assignment will be given a point value. To average grades you must divide the total points you have earned by the total number of points possible. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VI. Make-up Work Missed homework assignments are due the first day a student returns to school. Homework not turned in at that time will be considered late. Exams missed due to excused absences are to be made up before school, after school, or during Flex. Students who are absent on test day but were present when the test was assigned must take the test when they return to school. If there are circumstances that prevent the student from complying with the make-up policy, the student should see the teacher as soon as possible. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VII. Notebook Students are required to maintain a US 10 notebook. Notebooks are to be three-ring binders that hold loose-leaf paper. The notebook will contain class work, homework, handouts, notes, grade sheet, etc. Notebooks will be graded at least once each nine-week grading period. Students will be notified in advance of a notebook check. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VIII. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Guidelines In an effort to bring more technology tools into our classroom and to leverage student-owned technology, Enterprise High School will allow personal technology devices to be brought onto the campus and used in BYOD classrooms. A signed Acknowledgement Letter must be returned to your teacher to participate in BYOD. Portable computer, tablet, iPad, iTouch, Kindle Fire, smartphones, etc. are acceptable devices. These devices will be used for educational purposes only. Students are not allowed to use 3G or 4G connections. Your teacher and Enterprise High School will not be responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen devices. Use of the personal technology devices will follow the Terms of Agreement as set forth in the Enterprise City School Board of Acceptable Use of Technology Agreement. The rules of the BOYD classroom will be followed or the usage privileges will be revoked. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ IX. Websites I maintain a website at http://mrsnelsonshistoryclass.weebly.com/. This website contains valuable information about the class and video lectures. We will also use Edmodo for online discussions and assignments.
