Name of Drug Mode of Action Generic Name: Cefuroxime Bactericidal: Inhibits synthesis of bacterial cell wall, causing cell death. Route and Dosage Actual: Indications Contraindications Side Effects Adverse Reactions Nursing Responsibilities
Assess any history of allergy with this drug. Culture infection, and arrange for sensitivity tests before and during therapy if expected response is not seen. Give oral drug with food to decrease GI upset and enhance absorption.

750mg q8 ANST

Brand Name: Ceftin

Ideal: PO: 250mg BID 7-10 days or IV: 750mg BID

Classification: Antibiotic Cephalosporin

For treatment of many different types of bacterial infections such as bronchitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, ear infection, skin infections, gonorrhea, and urinary tract infection.

Contraindicated with allergy cephalosporin or penicillins. Use cautiously with renal failure, lactation, pregnancy.

Mucus rush Severe diarrhea Rash Difficulty in Bleeding breathing Lethargy Unusual Anorexia tiredness Decreased Fatigue platelets Itching or Hct irritation

Have vit. K available in case hypoprothrombinemia occurs. Instruct the pt to report any unusualities.

Instruct pt to avoid
alcohol while taking this drug and for 3 days after because severe reactions often occur.
