Int. mint In 1988 Mintzberg identified 5 types of strategy in the realm strategic thinking.

He made a clear distinction between strategic thinking and strategic planning. The first was more unpredictable and far less determined while the latter was just the opposite. These 5 types of strategy were: T
S Strategy as plan - a direction, guide, course of action - intention rather than actual Strategy as ploy - a maneuver intended to outwit a competitor 0 Strategy as pattern - a consistent pattern of past behaviour - realized rather than i intended Strategy as position - locating of brands, products, or companies within the conceptual framework of consumers or other stakeholders - strategy determined primarily by factors outside the firm Strategy as perspective - strategy determined primarily by a master strategist

To be more clear: Strategy as a plan = decision making (set of realistic record with no return because time reserved for that decision is consumed until a new one is made); Strategy as a ploy = reactive (short term trajectory), seen often in turbulent (fast changing) times. Also in uncertain times but is binary: doing nothing or act to show leadership; Strategy as a pattern = passive (long term trajectory) and reflection primarily internal. It is slowly but surely grown; Strategy as a position = reflection, primarily external to find your place, time and meaning. Trust and stability. Strategy as perspective = seeing, understanding, and valuing all of relevant factors of the whole. Thus knowing where to world is and can be going. Only action/implementation remain primarily. This type of strategy is only for a very select few or a very small group of people since synthesis is done one person or few (three) to find the essential insight from the right oversight.

Strategic Essence Matrix Value Creativity Experience Logics & structure

The Strategic Essence Matrix (SEM) is an uncomplicated tool for a first starting point to create vision and see reality. It must be seen and thought with a simultaneous way of building and identifying. We will later explain this with examples. Experience

In general the most relied on component due to the track record. It strengthen and is a platform that is stable but not for the courage to change when it is needed. Experience like facts and track record is PAST TENCE. Creativity It all about building that is relative or originally new. It involves creating opportunity to go into alternative direction that is either good or bad. It challenges and defeats experience. On the other hand, experience will form a barrier for creativity, for change. Logics & structure Stable and reliable platform for reality where further trajectory can be correctly drawn from. It helps us to make better decisions because it let us think sharper. increase our chance going into the right direction. It is however subdue to time, because logic is short-lived. Value It determines where thing will go and time has a little or almost no effect on. It is fixed and very hard to change. It controls TIME. Time itself do not control values so easily. Creativity vs Experience (counterpart) Value vs logic & structure (counterpart) Creativity can be structured and put in logic (function) Creativity and experience is unstructured or chaotic, that is, their initial state. Logic and values is structured or ordered, that is, their final state. Flow; stability is in the flow however it must be kept stable. Something acts as a driving force and usually it is difference. The gap or distance of difference must be small or large enough to keep the flow stable. If its too small no or very little flow will occur which bring bad quality. Too large difference makes flow unstable and creates new phenomena that which we cannot anticipate or control immediately due to newness. The question is should the flow be the same? The answer is no. It should be stable but the regime of stability for the flow can shift. It is your own responsibility to fins and track this regime for yourself. Notion: difference between stability and equilibrium and resolution. (Solving is letting or make it disappear whereas resolution is about acceptance. Sometimes things get blurred if one thinks or wants to see that resolution is a part of solution. It is definitely two different classes!) Difference between stability and equilibrium is that stability is recognizable and equilibrium does not(niet helemaal correct). Prioritization of values, creativity, experience and logic The prioritization, order of importance and urgency, of these for key components is not fixed and it is heavily depended on the situation or issue. It is not easy the sort

them correctly. It requires a very deep and broad understanding of these four components allowing you think of something that can punch trough time. When nothing is known and things are completely new it starts with values. I __________________________________________________________________ Stability = recognizable in time and time should be long enough to be recognized Structure = recognization/identity Energy = is (energy) flow or state(potential) of energy
