Rebecca Morel Initial Digipak Cover Ideas I have drawn four different designs for what I could use

when creating my digipak. After looking at my research, I have decided to create a three-sided fold out digipak. There a total number of six faces for me to design; the front cover, back cover, inside fold, the CD holder, and the face each side of the plastic CD holder. The images I use will be using for my digipak will be photographed; the drawings here are just to demonstrate what ideas I have had. Initial Design 1 The first design I have drawn is that of a hand and paintbrush. A thin black frame will surround the entire digipak, drawing emphasis on the main feature, which in this case would be the painting hand; I was inspired to use a thin black boarder after researching a digipak designed by the band The Black Keys. There will be an exaggerated amount of paint dripping down the paintbrush, onto the painters hand. The paint will be a mixture of bright colours. The nails of the painter will be painted a dark colour, but I plan to have them slightly chipped to give the appearance of hard work and a lack of perfection. Due to the fact that I plan for the image in the foreground to be the main feature of the cover, the background will be very plain. I will most likely leave it a simple colour and add the effect of a light shadow onto the background. I have decided to leave the background without a huge amount of detail because I do not wish to complicate the image. Yet, if I do decide to add detail to the background of the image, I will most likely create a black shadow, of which may be different to the position the hand in the foreground is holding.

Initial Design 2 For my second design, I have based the image around the artist in my music video. I decided to create a cover including Izzy due to the fact that a large amount of female artists I researched feature themselves of on the cover, such as Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine. I planned to have a thick black boarder, approximately 20mm wide. I was inspired to include this feature after looking at the indie band The Lumineers, who have used a thick boarder on several of their albums. The photographed image of Izzy will exaggerate the fact that she is a painter. I will position several items of art equipment (a pallet and paintbrushes) into her hair. The hair I will create will have been designed to be able to hold items, but I may need a wig or several hair accessories in order to make sure the equipment is firmly secure. As for her clothing, a ragged, painted dress would be worn reflecting the fact that she has been painting. The final feature of the album cover will be the dripping paint appearing from the top edge of the cover. The paint will be on top of the boarder, which therefore gives the impression that paint has been spilled onto the album. The colour of the paint will be dark colours, such as maroons and dark blues to represent the tone of the song Cycles. Izzy will be reacting to the paint as it drips down the album, with an expression of shock and horror as it slow engulfs her image on the cover. The name of the album will appear at the bottom of the case, in the centre of the black boarder. To create a contrast, the colour of the text will be in white. The font will be in an italic script, drawing attention to the creative, artistic theme of the digipak.

Rebecca Morel Initial Design 3 For my third design, I referred back to using the hands of an artist. Out of the two ideas I had already created, I decided to continue on with the idea of using hands as a main feature of my digipak. The idea is similar to my first design, except this time, I will use two hands creating a shape similar to the butterfly hand sign. The open palms will be holding a paintbrush between the thumb and finger, with the paintbrush facing up. Yet again, there will be paint dripping down the brush, onto and through the fingers. I will use a thin black boarder, emphasising the image on the front of the digipak. The background will be very plain because of the complicated image in the foreground. Initial design 4 For my final design, I have decided to stay with the idea of using hands holding a paintbrush with dripping paint in my artwork. The previous features I have mentioned will all be used. The nails will be painted yet slightly chipped; I will have included a black boarder and the background will be bland to not draw attention from the foreground. This hand gesture is similar to the ok hand sign. The paintbrush will be grasped between the thumb and forefinger. The paint will cover a large part of the hand.
