The race is on
In most homes with school going children, the new academic year is not so academic this time of the year as everyone dons their competitive spirit and participates in schools athletics. Despite all the rain, no major floods occurred in the area and most schools in the area had managed to keep to their sports schedules. See inside for Laerskool Burgerforts inter house competition and Laerskool Ohrigstads Houtspele.

The station management of SAPS Leboeng together with the Community Policing Forum and Youth Against Crime visited the community of Leboeng Gankoana on 23 January as part of a door-to-door campaign. Their main aim was to improve the service delivery. The station commander, Captain Solomon Moholane, visited the home of Ms Maria Nkoana in order to hear her compliments and complaints. He gave the community safety tips to avoid housebreaking and theft, which is prevalent in the area. He told the community them to ensure that all doors are locked at all times and that windows are closed when they are not at home. He said the community should install burglar bars at the doors and in front of the windows. He further told them to strengthen neighbourhood watch efforts and to mark their valuable property such as TV sets, DVD players and computers. Tools such as axes, spades, picks etc should also be locked away when they are not on use because they can be used in an attack. Meanwhile the operation to address the root causes of crime continued on Sunday and two people were arrested. A 48 year old man and 41 year old woman were arrested at Kgautswane for possession of dagga plants. 17 plants were confiscated. The two appeared at Leboeng Magistrates Court and they were fined R500. Ms Sophia Ndou said: Yes, we bully to get what we want. I dont know what will make it better.
Mnr.
Mr Victor Manoge said: People in South Africa are very hungry. People are coming from other countries taking jobs of South Africans. Unemployment etc. are making people angry. Government is confused because before apartheid it was whites against blacks and now it is blacks against blacks. They must rather keep talking instead of using these bullying tactics. In the end job creation is the key to peace. If people are busy there will be no time for this warawara.
Mr Collins Mushwana said: The problem is that there is a lot of corruption in our government. The police is trying to protect government. They must bully the people if the people are doing things that are not right. People must rather sit down and talk and all these things can be solved.
Mr Steve Juu Juu Njoya said: People should not break the laws like they are often doing during protests. They should not use violence and threats. People should be heard and that is why the protests are necessary, but they must be peaceful. Government should not disregard critique. Critique can be good. Like now with the FNB advert, they are bringing across what the youth, the future of South Africa thinks. They should not bully the bank. They should talk so that there are no misunderstandings. All parties should always understand what is happening and keep talking.
Ms Napo Khomotso and Mr Gilbert Manaso said: It is not the right thing to do to bully others to get what you want. Government and the people should discuss more what is the problem. People should also remember that is takes time to reach the goal. Everything will not be provided overnight.
Mr Lucas Mohlala, Mr Ronald Kobe and Mr Nhlanhla Khumalo said: Wed better sit down and talk. Destroying does not help. Government is doing its best. Demonstrating and destroying like now in Sasolburg is not the way. People are not being heard and that is why they turn violent. Government must communicate better. They must continuously communicate what are the plans for service delivery, what are the problems and where the money is going so that people know what is happening. Government delivers, but the leaders often dont. Money often goes to their own pockets and that is why people turn to bullying to get their way.

NUUS
Mr Phatudi Phasha said: The behaviour of the people are wrong. These days people suffer from superiority complex. Not only whites over blacks, but from all sides and all people. Revenge is not the way to go. People need to stay positive and try to understand each others difficulties. If government communicates properly it will be better. If we are waiting for water, and government promise but dont get back to us, the people get angry. If they communicate what is happening it will be better.
Mr Justice Mogane said: With this bullying they are killing the economy - both the government and the people. We are taking our own country down.
Mr Norman Malatji said: It seems that people are now no longer patient. They are no longer trusting the authorities. There is bullying because there is only mistrust from all sides. Government is also not patient in talking to the people. It is getting tough in South Africa. To normalise things there should be a platform where people can air their needs and government must do something tangible. Service delivery must be seen.
Mr Magate Sekonya and Mr Steve Kgwete said: If you have a problem with government dont stone cars etc. Here the police will also not warn people that there is a mob in town. You will get stuck in the middle. If you try to go back they will block you and if you go forward they want to know why you drive through them. People think they bully government, but if they destroy services that are already there like tar roads when they burn tyres on it - it is backward thinking. This comrade appointment is also nonsense. The bullying started in 2008 when Malema was used to fire Mbeki. If you teach your dog to bite everyone and there is nobody around, it will bite you. If you are a threat to government they will bully you. They must rather invite challenge.
Mr Innocent Zondi said: I think when we came into democracy we had high expectations. Some people thought everything will be free. Life does not work like that. Although we have problems we are a powerful nation and we can overcome it with hard work, education and peaceful means. We are not a bullying nation. We are impatient because we want things now and it is not the way it works. Constructive criticism should be accepted in South Africa, as long as there are no strings attached.
Me.
Links: Me. Cathy Blignaut en Me. Joan Blignaut s: Ons is n land van boelies. Mense raak gefrustreerd. Kyk hoe baie mens is al dood in stakings ens. Jy is vandag nie eens veilig in jou eie huis nie. By hulle is Dylan en Juan.
Mnr. By hom is Megan-Leigh.

Daar is sommer by die snoepie se afdag gebraai.
