Call Barring
1 Denition
The feature Call Barring enables the subscriber to protect his or her line from unauthorized use. The operating company can specify traffic restriction classes from which the subscriber is free to choose a suitable one. In addition, a code-dependent restriction is also possible for prevention of unauthorized feature usage on a line. The feature Outgoing Call Barring (OCB) allows the user to restrict outgoing traffic types such as International connections National connections The feature Incoming Call Barring (ICB) allows the user to restrict incoming traffic types such as Local connections National connections
Incoming Call Barring (ICB) Traffic class 1 activated STOP Local call
Operator benefits fewer complaints about high invoices improved service Subscriber benefits no unauthorized outgoing use of the subscriber access restricted number of incoming calls

2 Mode of operation
For the feature Call Barring the traffic classes are administered by the operator as follows: A destination/code is linked with a trafc type. One or more trafc types are assigned to a trafc class. The trafc class is assigned to a subscriber number. It is possible to enter different types of traffic classes: operator controlled subscriber controlled This means that two traffic classes can be activated simultaneously for OCB and/or ICB. For Outgoing Call Barring (OCB) the system analyzes the dialed information to identify the destination. This determines the traffic type. If the traffic type is assigned to an activated traffic restriction class, call attempts to this destination are rejected. For Incoming Call Barring (ICB) the system analyzes the directory number of the incoming call and/or the call type of the origin. This determines the traffic type. If this traffic type is assigned to an activated incoming traffic restriction class, call attempts from this origin are rejected. The rejected calls can be diverted to an indication (e.g. recorded announcement) which is assigned to the traffic type. The restrictions do not affect existing connections, but only apply to new call attempts. When the SCI traffic restriction class is activated for a subscriber, all subscriber controlled inputs are rejected, except inputs for OCB and call-related subscriber controlled inputs.

Call Barring
The order of the restrictions represents a descending hierarchy with regard to the scope of the barred traffic types. In other words, in the case of local barring, only calls to nonbarrable destinations, such as emergency calls, are possible. For the other traffic restrictions, destinations defined by the operator as national, international or intercontinental cannot be accessed. Outgoing Call Barring traffic types National 1 National 2 Premium rate calls Local/overseas toll-free calls International operator-assisted calls Operator-assisted calls Special service calls Emergency calls Local calls Calls for other types of operator services Outgoing calls to certain service centers/access codes All calls except those to a group of dened numbers Supplementary services (subscriber controlled input - SCI) Incoming Call Barring traffic types National 1 National 2 Trunk offering operator calls Local calls Test calls Calls from other networks (e.g. mobile telephone calls) All calls except for those to a group of dened numbers Diverted calls The network node blocks all incoming calls except calls from Line Work Station (LWS) Trunk offering operator Other feature authorizations With supplementary authorization for restriction suspension, subscribers can override an active outgoing restriction for their next call. A code (PIN) should always be used for this subscriber input. Capacity Dependent on the size of the database the network node should be equipped to handle up to 100% of the subscribers with this feature.

*) casual suspension of Outgoing Call Barring Access code The access code for subscriber controlled input consists of a maximum of 6 characters or, for GeoCENTREX subscribers, a maximum of 5 characters. It can be formed from the symbols 5 , # and the service code (SC) with the digits 0 to 9. The operator can specify the character strings for the access code. Differences for pulse dialing The selected digits are not obligatory; other digits can be input (depending on the existing numbering plan). 1111 at the beginning of an input in place of 5 1112 at the beginning of an input in place of # 1113 at the beginning of an input in place of 5 # 5 as a disconnecting signal after the service code, not relevant # after the subscriber controlled input, not relevant
