The reworking of the design of the 72 ALEUTIAN began in October 2009 and was completed in July 2011, assisted by Architect Bertoni. One of the main objectives was not to create a one-off, but to work on the basis of a tried and tested model (Dolcenera is hull no. 18), analysing and optimising existing vessels by introducing a number of improvements. The result is a solid and reliable yacht with a line that could only have been traced out by Tom Fexas and a modern, comfortable and practical layout, built in keeping with the tradition and quality of Grand Banks. Over the course of a good 14 months, a surveyor checked Dolcenera on a daily basis during her meticulous construction.

The boat features numerous improvements, including: a forward area with comfortable settees a large, partially covered ybridge measuring over 40 m2 a much larger salon a cockpit with a table for 12 people a crew area, separate even during the day a day toilet on the main deck a redesigned and larger master cabin The engine to be installed was the subject of lengthy analysis. In the end, two high-capacity engines (C18 ACERT) were chosen, although they have been de-rated to 873 HP so as to be able to travel continuously for 1500 miles at a speed of 10 knots, as well as to complete rapid transfers at 18 knots. Every detail of Dolcenera has been carefully thought-out for comfortable, reliable and exible long-range travel.

The saloon is narrow by modern standards, but this reects the priority given to wide, easy-to-use side deck and it adds to the intimacy of the saloon. The windows help to enhance the space although the twin opposing settees aft do look more like an old time railway carriage than the lounge on a 76-footer. The pop-up TV is on the right side. The longer deckhouse gives more space to the salon for a separate and elegant dining area on the main level that features a handmade teak-inlay table. A large entertainment center features custom cabinetry that can lower the large at-panel TV out of sight. Also a very useful day head at the saloon level is accessible from exterior side decks. The dining table has been carefully shaped to t into the forward corner of the saloon where the matching settee and four chairs allow seating for eight. Large square windows are at the right height to maintain and outside view when seated.

The full-beam master stateroom is oriented with the large queen berth athwart ships, surrounded by elegant panelling, hand-built cabinetry and generous storage. A fresh new style expertly blends contemporary accents with the traditional nautical aesthetic of the Aleutian Series, making this a luxurious retreat for her owners. The large en-suite master head has a double sink set into a large granite countertop and separate enclosures for the shower and head at opposite ends. With a feeling of space on par with the master cabin, the guest stateroom is large enough to accommodate a queen-sized bed, and is surrounded by storage and hanging cedar-lined lockers. The en-suite head has a separate shower and ne granite countertops. The two-bunk crew cabin is located aft with access through a transom door. The crew space is hemmed in with the fuel and water tanks and across the cabin is the laundry area. The transom door opens directly into the cabin with the bathroom enclosed on the port side and a walk forward through the cabin leads to the sealed door to the engine room.
