About 85% of the permits go to New Hampshire residents; the number of permits available to nonresidents is capped, based on the prior year's sales of nonresident hunting licenses.

It's time to try your luck on the adventure of a lifetime -- hunting moose in New Hampshire. The state's 2013 moose hunt lottery is now open. Entering costs $15 for N e w Hampshire residents and $25 for nonresidents. It's easy to enter the moose hunt lottery. Visit http://www.huntnh.com to enter online or print out a mail-in application. You can also get an application from any Fish and Game license agent. Moose hunt lottery applications for 2013 must be postmarked or submitted online by midnight Eastern Time on May 31, 2013, or delivered to the Licensing office at N.H. Fish and Game headquarters in Concord before 4:00 p.m. that day. Winners will be selected through a computerized random drawing on June 21. It is a microcosm of life. We are born, we grow, we get beaten up by the years, and ultimately we fall leaving room for new life. And in that microcosm in each of our lives there are chapters to the story we write as we move forward, our pen being the actions we take, the pages filled with memories. Watching Atticus march matterof-factly through those frozen trees he seemed to float over the path and walk among the landscape as though he were part of it, but unfazed by any of it, as if his life not about what is taken away from him through the rough times, but about what presently awaits us. Eventually we reached the summit of Waumbek, walked a bit past it to the viewpoint of the Presidentials, and took our lunch as weve done more than a dozen times on that same mountain. I sat in the snow and Atticus sat in my lap and we ate quietly, looking out from our little perch in reverential silence. where the attack had taken place but as soon as he was beyond it he was truly beyond it. I knew there would never be an issue at that house again and he was beyond his fear and beyond any scars you or I would tend to harbor if we suffered the same fate. And sure enough on the way down the mountain we walked easily in silence and when we were at the very end of our trek and walking by where the attack took place there was no agitation on his part, no whimper, nor whine, or growl. He had left the past behind where it belonged. We had come to the mountains years ago to climb as many peaks as we could but what I realize now is that the numbers of peaks dont really matter. What has mattered though are the experiences we glean from them and how they change our life. The map to Waumbek tells me its just shy of an eight mile round trip. What it doesnt show is that along the way we reach true places where lessons are taught and learned by each other, we renew the bond of friendship, and we find a way to catalogue the chapters of our lives, and leave the past where it belongs. It is not down in any map; true places never are. ~ Walt Whitman Eight years ago Atticus and I climbed our first four thousandfooter. From the summit of Mount Garfield we looked out over the Pemigewasset Wilderness and the bowl of mountains surrounding much of it that gives that vantage point a feeling of being on one end of an amphitheater. At that instant something was born within me, something so different, fresh, and exhilarating that I knew then and there our lives were about to change. At the time I owned and ran a small town newspaper in Newburyport, Massachusetts and it was more than just my job, it had been my life for the previous decade. And yet standing upon that precipice I knew, without warning and quite suddenly, that it was time to move on. Within a couple of years we done just that and have moved north to the mountains we were climbing during all four seasons. During those first years of hiking I was consumed with all things most hikers get into when they are struck by the bug. We did

archery leagues, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department will run two additional leagues in February. There will be a new archery league for beginners, as well as an added league for experienced archers who want to learn new skills or improve their current skills. Both leagues will be held at Fish and Game's Owl Brook Hunter Education Center, located at 387 Perch Pond Road in Holderness, N.H. He wants government to be the most important and powerful thing in our lives and seeks to have the maximum number of people dependent upon the government for their safety and security.

Average levels of many chemicals were substantially higher in pets than is typical for people, with 2.4 times higher levels of stain- and grease-proof coatings (perfluorochemicals) in dogs, 23 times more fire retardants (PBDEs) in cats, and more than five times the amounts of mercury, compared to average levels in people, reports the group. Their 2008 study looked at plastics and food packaging chemicals, heavy metals, fire retardants and stain-proofing chemicals in pooled samples of blood and urine from 20 dogs and 37 cats tested at a Virginia veterinary clinic. For dogs, blood and urine samples were contaminated with 35 chemicals altogether, including 11 carcinogens, 31 chemicals toxic to the reproductive system, and 24 neurotoxins, adds EWG. This is particularly alarming given that mans best friend is known to have much higher cancer rates than humans. A 2008 Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Center study found that dogs have 35 times more skin cancer, four times more breast tumors, eight times more bone cancer, and two times more leukemia per capita as humans. Walking Home
The short, dark says of winter make our walk home more siginificant. Arriving home from work or other engagement is not accomplished as quickly as during the summer months. The class VI road on which we live is not maintained, and while we can maneuver a truck down to our property line when the ground is bare, snow cover of course negates such ease. So we park by the cemetery for which our road is named, then snap on skis or buckle on snowshoes, and head for home. From the cemetery its a third of a mile to our cabin. Many ladies of the Town of Warren have sewed quilt blocks for the 250th Anniverary of the Town of Warren commerative quilt project. Several recently met at the Patch Library to lay out the blocks and begin sewing them together. Pictured above left to right are, Nancy Chandler, Sheila Foote, Luane Clark and Sarah Lester. It is at the twisted maple, before the series of seeps and springs, that the light from the cabin is first visible (if, of course, one of us is already at home to greet the other). It beckons: dim, patient, promising. On the nights that my eyes discern this little light, a smile customarily touches the corners of my lips. As forest gives way to field, the path rounds the corner past the garden and reaches the front door. Sometimes the squeak of snow announces my arrival, other times the headlamp on my forehead is a clear giveaway. Sometimes the powdered snow silences my footsteps only to be heard by Mica, who announces my arrival with a welcoming bark.. I swing open the door, make use of the stump that is our doorstep, and enter. I am home at last.
