PURPOSE The Purpose of this document is to provide the guidelines to the Testing Engineer to check the quality of the insulation system of the transformer by measuring the capacitances and the dielectric losses at rated frequency. The test also indicates the ageing of the insulation and the contamination of the oil.

2.0

SCOPE This instruction applies to the in-house & final testing of the HV Transformer.

INSTRUCTIONS In a two-winding transformer, there are six measurements of capacitance: (1) CHL (2) CHL+HG (3) CHG (4) C LH+LG (5) C LG (6) C HG +LG (7) Capacitance of the HV bushings of three phases. All HV line terminals are connected together labeled (H) and all LV terminals are connected together labeled (L) and a connection is made to a ground terminal, usually a connection to

Either grounded specimen measurements or grounded measurements are possible so that all the capacitance and dissipation factor values can be determined. 11.0 CALCULATIONS DISSIPATION CORRECTION FACTOR Tan Delta at 20 C = Tan Delta at Temp T C / Factor K 12.0 TOLERANCES NIL
